New Delhi: IndiaAI, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of AYUSH to accelerate the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across India’s traditional medicine ecosystem (AI Innovation in Traditional Healthcare).
The collaboration marks a significant step towards strengthening AI research and innovation by integrating eligible AYUSH health research artefacts with AIKosh, India’s sovereign AI repository.
The MoU was signed by Sudeep Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer, IndiaAI Mission and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and Dr. Kavita Jain, Joint Secretary and Chief Vigilance Officer, Ministry of AYUSH, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.
As part of the partnership, the Ministry of AYUSH will onboard AIKosh and contribute eligible anonymised health research artefacts, including datasets, metadata, AI models, toolkits and relevant use cases.
The initiative is expected to strengthen AI innovation in traditional healthcare by enabling researchers, startups, academic institutions and innovators to develop AI solutions aligned with national priorities while complying with applicable data-sharing policies and regulatory requirements.
The collaboration will also allow eligible stakeholders from the AYUSH ecosystem to access India’s AI computing infrastructure through the IndiaAI Compute ecosystem.
This is expected to support advanced AI research and the development of scalable healthcare solutions, further advancing AI innovation in traditional healthcare across the country’s traditional medicine ecosystem.

Highlighting the significance of the collaboration, Sudeep Srivastava said, “MoU between IndiaAI and Ministry of Ayush is an important step in enrichment of AIkosh with datasets of traditional healthcare.
Further, this collaboration of modern technology with our ancient wisdom will enable and empower researchers and practitioner of our traditional medicinal sciences.”
Reiterating the role of Artificial Intelligence in strengthening research and innovation, Dr. Kavita Jain said, “The integration of Artificial Intelligence with Ayush will open new avenues for evidence-based research, knowledge management and innovation.
Our collaboration with IndiaAI will help leverage advanced AI capabilities across areas such as research, medicinal plants, drug administration and capacity building, making the Ayush ecosystem more technology-driven and future-ready.”
The MoU will remain valid for an initial period of two years, with a provision for automatic renewal upon mutual agreement. The collaboration does not involve any financial commitment or liability for either party.
The partnership represents another step towards AI Innovation in traditional healthcare by combining AIKosh’s data ecosystem, advanced AI infrastructure and the Ministry of AYUSH’s research ecosystem.
