  • Indic AI Funding Hits $399 Million in 2026, Led by Sarvam’s Two Rounds: Tracxn Report

    Indic AI Report by Tracxn

Bangalore: Two funding rounds by Sarvam account for 87% of the $399 million raised by Indic AI companies in 2026, according to Tracxn‘s “Indic AI: Building AI for Bharat Report.”

The report, with data as of October 15, 2026, analyses funding, business models and growth across 34 companies building AI for India’s languages.

The Indic AI ecosystem holds $687 million in all-time equity funding, of which $657 million has been raised since 2021 across 56 rounds.

Funding reached $399 million across nine rounds in 2026, against $23 million across nine rounds in 2025, with the rise reflecting larger round sizes.

Two Sarvam rounds, of $255 million and $90 million, account for about 87% of Indic AI funding in 2026, the report said.

Excluding Sarvam, the year raised $54 million across seven rounds.

Every round recorded across the period sits at seed or early stage, and the first late stage round will show whether any company has moved from building to scaling, the report said.

The report sorts the 34 Indic AI companies into two tiers. For 18, including Sarvam, Gnani, Soket AI and BharatGen, Indic language is the product itself.

For the other 16, including Skit.ai, Nuplay AI and GreyLabs, it is a differentiator within a broader enterprise product.

The first tier holds $452 million, 66% of all-time capital, while the second holds $234 million.

GreyLabs now serves more than 50 institutions, including RBL Bank, AU Small Finance Bank and IDFC FIRST Bank.

Sarvam and Krutrim, both founded in 2023, are the two unicorns in the set and together hold $464 million.

Sarvam, with $389 million raised, is one of the government’s four selected sovereign model builders, while Krutrim, with $75 million raised, has shifted from foundation model development toward AI cloud infrastructure.

Only two exits have been recorded: Haptik at $101 million and Reverie at $27 million, both acquired by Reliance group companies in 2019, before the 2026 surge.

India is the only one among four comparable ecosystems, alongside Singapore, Africa and the Gulf, built primarily through competing, investor-owned companies, the report said.

Global model providers are moving into the language gap, with Gemini natively supporting nine Indian languages and OpenAI releasing an Indian language benchmark built with 261 domain experts, it added.
