Indian Army Hosts First Seminar on Additive Manufacturing for Combat Equipment Sustenance

Pune: The Indian Army hosted its first-ever Seminar on additive manufacturing for the sustenance of combat critical equipment in Pune, where Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, delivered the keynote address.

The landmark event was conceived as a platform to connect policymakers, academia, industry, and the Armed Forces with the objective of accelerating the adoption of the agile and flexible technologies in sustaining vital military equipment.

Additive Manufacturing and Military Equipment Sustenance

In his keynote address, Lt Gen Seth emphasized the critical importance of equipment sustenance during military operations. He stressed the need to supplement conventional manufacturing methods with agile and flexible technologies like additive manufacturing, which prioritize speed and adaptability.

He reiterated that incorporating this technology in sustaining combat-critical equipment is vital for the Armed Forces.

Key Deliberations

The day-long seminar featured discussions on India’s evolving additive manufacturing landscape. Distinguished speakers included Lt Gen JS Sidana, AVSM, Director General and Senior Colonel Commandant of the Corps of EME; officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY); representatives from the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing (NCAM); as well as industry leaders and academicians.

The sessions provided participants with a deeper understanding of policy frameworks, the latest global and national research, and industry perspectives on innovations in production processes and upcoming investments in additive mfg.
