National Awards to Teachers 2025: Department of Higher Education Announces 21 Educators Selected

National Awards to Teachers

New Delhi: The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, has announced the selection of 21 distinguished educators from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Polytechnics across India for the National Awards to Teachers (NAT) 2025.

National Awards to Teachers Recognize Excellence in Higher Education

The National Awards to Teachers are conferred on faculty members who demonstrate exemplary contributions in teaching, research, outreach, and innovation.

Initially instituted for school teachers, the awards were expanded in 2023 to include two categories – HEIs and Polytechnics – under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes rewarding and recognizing outstanding educators to cultivate a culture of excellence.

Selection Process for National Awards to Teachers 2025

The NAT 2025 awardees were chosen through a two-step process: preliminary evaluation by a Search-cum-Screening Committee, followed by final selection by a National Jury.

Applications were invited online via the awards portal, with self, institutional, and peer nominations allowed under the Jan Bhagidari initiative.

The evaluation was based on multiple parameters, with significant weightage assigned to teaching-learning effectiveness and outreach activities, alongside research, innovation, consultancy, and faculty development programs.
