The NMMSS Scholarship application deadline for the academic year 2026-27 has been extended to October 31, 2026, by the Union Ministry of Education.
The extension gives eligible students additional time to submit their applications through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
The revised deadline will also facilitate timely verification of applications by the concerned authorities. Under the NMMSS Scholarship scheme, eligible students receive financial assistance of ₹12,000 per annum.
NMMSS Scholarship 2026-27: Revised Application Schedule

The National Scholarship Portal has been open for student applications since June 1, 2026. Students are required to complete their One-Time Registration (OTR) on the portal before applying for the NMMSS Scholarship.
As of September 30, 2026, a total of 88,522 fresh applications and 1,97,133 renewal applications had been submitted.
Students who have already submitted their applications should ensure that their applications are verified by the concerned Institute Nodal Officer (L1) by November 15, 2026.
The applications must subsequently be verified by the District Nodal Officer (L2) by November 30, 2026.
What is the NMMSS Scholarship?
The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) is aimed at supporting meritorious students from economically weaker sections and encouraging them to continue their education beyond Class VIII up to Class XII.
Under the scholarship scheme, one lakh fresh scholarships are provided every year to eligible Class IX students who qualify in the selection examination conducted by the respective State or Union Territory Governments.
The scholarship is subsequently continued from Classes X to XII through renewal, subject to the prescribed academic requirements.
NMMSS Scholarship Amount
Eligible students studying in state government, government-aided and local body schools receive ₹12,000 per annum under the NMMSS Scholarship scheme.
The scholarship amount is transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
NMMSS Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
For appearing in the NMMSS selection test, students must have secured at least 55 per cent marks or an equivalent grade in Class VII. There is a relaxation of five percentage points for students belonging to the SC/ST categories.
The parental income of the applicant should not exceed ₹3.50 lakh per annum.
The NMMSS Scholarship is intended to provide financial support to eligible students and encourage them to continue their education from Class IX through Class XII.
