New Delhi: The need for faster regulatory clearances, improved funding access and stronger research infrastructure emerged as key areas of discussion when Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal interacted with biopharma and biotech startups to assess challenges facing the sector.
The interaction was aimed at identifying measures that could help emerging innovators overcome operational bottlenecks and support the expansion of India’s domestic bioeconomy.
Among the issues discussed were regulatory procedures, patent approvals, funding availability and access to indigenous procurement and research infrastructure.
The focus was on coordinated interventions that could strengthen the country’s biotechnology ecosystem and create more supportive conditions for biotech startups.
“Discussed the need for coordinated action to simplify regulatory processes, improve access to funding, expedite patent approvals, and strengthen indigenous procurement and research infrastructure,” Piyush Goyal stated in his post on X.
For biopharma and biotech startups, reducing procedural hurdles could support efforts to move innovations from research and development towards commercial applications.
The discussions also highlighted the role of stronger institutional support in enabling emerging companies to scale.
Goyal also pointed to the importance of closer cooperation between startups, industry, government and research institutions in building the sector’s growth momentum.
“Stronger collaboration between government, industry and research institutions will help innovative startups scale and contribute to India’s growing bioeconomy,” Goyal added.
The engagement with biopharma and biotech startups comes as part of the minister’s broader outreach to industry stakeholders.
