Vimag Labs Begins Manufacturing at Jhajjar Facility, Plans Around ₹50 Crore Phased Investment

Vimag Labs

Bengaluru: Vimag Labs has commenced operations at its first manufacturing facility at Met City, Jhajjar, Haryana, marking the company’s transition from technology development and validation to industrialisation and serial production.

The facility manufactures and assembles motor and control systems and related propulsion systems, including Vimag Labs’ proprietary magnet-free motor technology.

The company has already completed and exported its first production batch from the Jhajjar facility.

The site marks the beginning of a phased manufacturing build-out in India, with Vimag Labs currently planning around ₹50 crore of investment across the manufacturing expansion.

The investment will be deployed progressively, with the timing and scale linked to customer programmes, product volumes, capacity requirements and market traction.

The overall scale of investment is expected to evolve as the company expands its manufacturing capabilities and identifies additional opportunities.

Vimag Labs Begins Manufacturing at Jhajjar

Jhajjar is Vimag Labs’ first dedicated manufacturing facility and is intended to serve as the starting point for a broader manufacturing expansion focused on developing and industrialising advanced propulsion technologies in India for customers globally.

The company is evaluating additional capacity and locations while building a network of manufacturing, supply-chain and industrialisation partners across India.

The objective is to establish a flexible India-based production base that can scale with customer traction and support both domestic and global programmes.

The initial Jhajjar facility covers 10,000 sq. ft., with the ability to expand to approximately 20,000 sq. ft. The first phase is focused on industrialisation, process validation and serial production of mid-power motor and control systems.

The manufacturing setup at the Vimag Labs facility includes clean-room areas, digitally connected production systems, Industry 4.0 and IoT-enabled monitoring, traceability and a highly automated production line.

The company said the objective is to combine advanced motor and control technology with repeatable, scalable and quality-controlled manufacturing rather than operate as a conventional assembly facility.

Vimag Labs Plans ₹50 Crore Manufacturing Investment

Manish Seth, Co-founder and CEO, Vimag Labs, said: “The commencement of manufacturing marks an important transition for Vimag from technology development and validation into industrialisation and serial production. Jhajjar is the first step in a broader manufacturing build-out.

We are currently planning around Rs 50 crore of investment, to be deployed in phases as customer programmes, traction and product requirements develop.

The scale and timing of investment will evolve with demand as we build capacity and deepen our manufacturing base. The first production batch has already been exported from Jhajjar, demonstrating that the facility has moved into commercial manufacturing.”

Seth added, “Our initial focus is on scaling mid-power motor and control systems for commercial programmes.

As customer programmes mature, we plan to extend manufacturing into high-power systems of 570 kW and above and deepen partnerships across India for manufacturing, supply chain, tooling and industrialisation.

Our long-term goal is to build a globally competitive production base in India for domestic and international customers.”

As part of its manufacturing expansion, Vimag Labs is building its production system to scale toward a capacity of up to 10,000 motor and control systems per month as programme volumes increase.

Vimag Labs Targets Up to 10,000 Motor and Control Systems Monthly

The initial manufacturing focus of Vimag Labs is on mid-power applications across electric mobility and other electrified systems.

The company plans to extend production to higher-power motor and control systems of 570 kW and above as customer programmes and product requirements mature. Such expansion will require additional manufacturing, testing and industrialisation infrastructure.

Vimag Labs plans to add capacity across locations in line with customer demand and product mix. The company is already working with multiple customers and industry partners across different vehicle and application segments.

The manufacturing build-out is intended to support both current customer programmes and future production requirements.

As the manufacturing network expands, Vimag Labs expects to create approximately 100 to 150 direct and indirect employment opportunities across manufacturing, quality, testing, engineering, supply chain and operations.

Local recruitment is expected to form an important part of the company’s workforce expansion.

Vimag Labs Funding and Manufacturing Partnerships

Vimag Labs recently raised USD 5 million in its Series A funding round led by Accel, with participation from Chakra Growth Fund and Thinkuvate.

The company has also signed a manufacturing MoU with Jendamark Pvt. Ltd. to support VMSM production scale-up.

In addition, Vimag Labs is developing an India-wide ecosystem of manufacturing, component, tooling and industrialisation partners to support production for domestic and global customer programmes.

The company has also secured an exclusive U.S. technology licensing, manufacturing and commercialisation agreement for a production-ready, bidirectional high-voltage inverter platform capable of operating at up to 1,000 volts.

With the Jhajjar facility now operational, Vimag Labs is beginning its planned phased manufacturing expansion, with production capacity expected to scale in line with customer programmes, product requirements and market traction.
