METRO AG Completes Major Cloud Transformation Milestone with Wipro

BENGALURU, India | DUSSELDORF, Germany: METRO AG has achieved a significant milestone in its digital transformation journey with the successful completion of a large-scale, multi-year data center migration program executed in partnership with Wipro Limited.

The milestone marks a major step in METRO AG’s enterprise cloud transformation strategy, creating a resilient, scalable, and future-ready digital foundation to support its long-term growth ambitions.

The program represents a core pillar of METRO AG’s cloud-first strategy and broader digital transformation agenda. Through the initiative, Wipro successfully migrated METRO AG’s IT operations from legacy data centers to a modern multi-cloud ecosystem using a phased and risk-controlled approach.

As part of the engagement, METRO AG and Wipro have established a future-ready digital backbone designed to strengthen cybersecurity, enhance digital capabilities, improve agility and resilience, and support the company’s AI transformation objectives.

The transformation program has also introduced intelligent automation across several key operational functions within METRO AG, including user lifecycle management.

Leveraging Wipro Intelligence, Wipro’s unified suite of AI-powered platforms, solutions, and transformative offerings, the automation capabilities are designed to autonomously manage service requests, helping improve turnaround times, accuracy, and operational efficiency.

In addition, Wipro has deployed advanced AI-driven engineering tools to accelerate software development cycles, improve code quality, and enable faster issue resolution.

These capabilities allow METRO AG to identify recurring patterns and systemic issues, strengthening decision-making while enhancing stability and reliability across operational areas.

The successful completion of the migration program further strengthens the long-standing relationship between METRO AG and Wipro.

The partnership dates back to December 2020, when Wipro announced a strategic digital and IT partnership agreement with METRO AG.

The collaboration was subsequently extended in June 2025, reinforcing both organizations’ commitment to accelerating cloud adoption, digital modernization, and AI-driven innovation.

With the completion of this major transformation initiative, METRO AG has established a scalable cloud-based infrastructure that supports future innovation, enhances operational resilience, and positions the organization to advance its AI-first ambitions.
