TIEA Connectors to Commercialize Advanced Airborne and EV Charging Connectors with TDB Support

TIEA Connectors

New Delhi: The TIEA Connectors project has received support from the Technology Development Board (TDB), Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, to accelerate the commercialization of indigenous high-reliability connector technologies designed for aerospace, defence, space, and electric mobility applications.

The initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening India’s domestic manufacturing capabilities for critical electrical interconnect systems while aligning with the country’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

According to the announcement, TDB has extended support to TIEA Connectors Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, for its project titled “Commercialization of Airborne Connectors for Aerospace, Defense & Charging Connectors for EV.”

The project is aimed at enhancing India’s indigenous capabilities in designing and manufacturing high-reliability electrical interconnect systems for strategic sectors such as aerospace, defence, space, and electric mobility.

Electrical connectors play a crucial role in modern electronic and electromechanical systems by ensuring uninterrupted transmission of power, signals, and data under demanding operating conditions.

In sectors including aerospace, defence, and space, connectors are expected to maintain consistent performance despite exposure to extreme vibration, shock, temperature variations, and challenging environmental conditions.

Through this initiative, TIEA Connectors seeks to address these demanding operational requirements with advanced indigenous technology.

The technology being commercialized by TIEA Connectors is based on an advanced vibration-resistant contact architecture developed to provide stable electrical performance in highly dynamic environments.

The innovation incorporates a proprietary multi-point elastic contact mechanism that improves contact retention, lowers electrical resistance, and prevents signal interruptions even under severe vibration conditions.

Unlike conventional stamped-contact connector systems, the technology developed by TIEA Connectors offers multiple effective contact points that enhance vibration endurance, improve durability, and extend operational life.

This design is intended to deliver greater reliability for mission-critical applications where uninterrupted connectivity is essential.

A key feature of the connector technology is its capability to maintain reliable electrical engagement under vibration levels of up to 100G, making it suitable for aerospace, defence, and space applications that demand exceptional operational resilience.

The connectors are manufactured using high-performance Beryllium Copper (BeCu) alloy and incorporate specialized locking mechanisms that ensure secure engagement and sustained electrical integrity in harsh operating environments.

For strategic applications, the connectors are further enhanced with silver and gold plating to provide improved conductivity, corrosion resistance, and long-term reliability.

These features position TIEA Connectors as a domestic solution for industries that have traditionally relied on imported high-performance connector technologies.

The project is aligned with the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative and the broader push toward indigenization of critical technologies for defence, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing.

TIEA Connectors has established in-house capabilities covering product design, engineering, tooling, prototyping, validation, testing, and manufacturing.

Critical processes including precision tooling, high-speed stamping, scientific injection moulding, surface treatment, and performance testing are being undertaken within India.

This integrated approach is expected to reduce dependence on imported connector technologies and components while strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities.

Beyond strategic sectors, TIEA Connectors also addresses the expanding requirements of India’s electric mobility ecosystem through the development of robust charging connector solutions for electric vehicles.

The project is expected to strengthen domestic supply chains, improve technological self-reliance, and support globally competitive manufacturing of high-value electronic components.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, said, “As India expands its capabilities in aerospace, defence, space technologies, and electric mobility, the availability of reliable indigenous component technologies becomes increasingly important.

High-performance connectors are critical building blocks for modern electronic systems, and their domestic development strengthens both technological self-reliance and supply chain resilience.

TDB is committed to supporting Indian enterprises that are developing globally competitive technologies for strategic and high-growth sectors.”

Expressing gratitude for the support, the promoters of TIEA Connectors Pvt. Ltd. stated that the assistance would enable the company to accelerate commercialization of its indigenous connector technologies and expand manufacturing capabilities to address the growing requirements of aerospace, defence, space, electric vehicle, and industrial markets in India and abroad.

The TDB-backed initiative is expected to contribute to India’s efforts to build indigenous expertise in advanced connector technologies while supporting sectors that require highly reliable electrical interconnect systems for mission-critical applications.
