IEDC Startup Summit 2026: Students Focus on Building Products

Speaking at the IEDC Startup Summit 2026, Anoop Ambika, CEO of Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), highlighted the rapid impact of technological advancements such as artificial intelligence on startup development.

“Earlier it would take several months to develop a prototype. Today, with the help of AI, it can be done in a matter of days,” he pointed out.

Ambika also observed that many aspiring entrepreneurs approach him seeking financial support.

“One out of ten aspiring entrepreneurs who call me ask for funding. Instead of waiting for grants or funding, students should focus on building products,” he said during the IEDC Startup Summit 2026, encouraging young innovators to translate classroom learning into real-world solutions.

He urged students to move away from rote learning and adopt a hands-on approach to innovation through the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) clusters. At present, Kerala has around 550 IEDC clusters operating across colleges and universities.

Highlighting the need for decentralisation, Ambika said the cluster network should expand to ensure that every district participates actively in the innovation ecosystem.
