AIT Alumni Legacy Rooted in Vision and Service
The Army Institute of Technology was established under the vision of B C Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, the then Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army.
Recognising the challenges faced by children of Army personnel due to frequent transfers and postings in remote areas, he envisioned an engineering college dedicated to wards of defence personnel.
Over the decades, AIT alumni have carried forward this vision through excellence in engineering, defence services, research, and corporate leadership.
AIT began its journey with three engineering branches: Electronics & Telecommunication, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Technology.
Over time, the institute expanded its academic offerings to include Information Technology, Robotics and Automation, Master of Engineering in Data Science, and a PhD in Computer Technology, strengthening the academic profile of AIT alumni across disciplines.
AIT Alumni and Academic Milestones
Army Institute of Technology (AIT) has witnessed significant vertical and horizontal expansion in recent years. Intake for Computer Engineering, Information Technology, and Electronics & Telecommunication branches has been enhanced, further strengthening the pipeline of skilled AIT alumni entering the industry.
All four core branches hold NBA accreditation, complemented by NAAC recognition for the college. Last year, AIT launched its pioneering Robotics and Automation programme with 60 seats and opened admissions for wards of Navy and Air Force personnel. In 2023, the institute introduced the Master of Engineering in Data Science with 24 seats.
Affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University, AIT has fully embraced the National Education Policy (NEP). For Academic Year 2025-26, the institute commenced Autonomy implementation, enabling innovative curricula and greater academic flexibility, further enhancing opportunities for future AIT alumni.
Vision, Infrastructure, and Research Focus
AIT continues to work towards its vision of becoming a “Globally Recognized” technical institute providing world-class education and research facilities to the wards of Defence personnel.
The institute emphasises core values such as Excellence, Honesty, Integrity, Teamwork, Continuous Learning, and Innovation – principles reflected in the achievements of its AIT alumni.
Under the guidance of Principal Dr B P Patil, the institute is focused on strengthening infrastructure and research. Planned developments include new hostel facilities, academic blocks, and sports infrastructure. AIT also aims to substantially increase its footprint in paper publications and research while filing innovative patents – initiatives that will benefit current students and future AIT alumni alike.
Future plans include:
- Introduction of PG courses aligned with industry requirements
- Establishment of Centres of Excellence in AI, Robotics, EV, and IoT
- Development of a robust startup and incubation ecosystem
