International Earth Science Olympiad 2025: India Wins 7 Medals at Global Event in China

International Earth Science Olympiad Winners from India

New Delhi: India registered an impressive performance at the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO-2025) held in Jining, China, from August 8 to 16, 2025.

The Indian student team brought home a total of seven medals, including one Gold, four Silver, and two Bronze, along with a 3rd Prize in the International Geoscience Youth Movement (I-GYM) Reporter category.

The Indian contingent, guided by mentors Prof Devesh Walia and Prof Hema Achyuthan, with Dr Jagvir Singh, Scientist-G, as observer, secured the following distinctions:

  • Rayansh Gupta (Sat Paul Mittal School, Ludhiana, Punjab) – Gold, Silver & I-GYM 3rd Prize
  • Charuvrat Bains (M G N Public School, Kapurthala, Punjab) – 2 Silver & 1 Bronze
  • Apam Nidhi Pandey (PM Shri K V No 1, Jaipur, Rajasthan) – 1 Silver
  • Priyanshi Ghanghas (MD Indraprastha Sr. Sec. Public School, Delhi) – 1 Bronze

Dr Jitendra Singh Felicitates Winners at International Earth Science Olympiad

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh, felicitated the winners in New Delhi. He praised the young achievers for bringing glory to the nation and noted the growing participation of students from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, influenced by India’s startup revolution.

The Minister emphasized that the National Education Policy (NEP-2020) has empowered young minds by allowing them to move beyond traditional subject barriers and explore emerging disciplines such as Earth Sciences, Biotechnology, and Space Technology.

He encouraged students to leverage government initiatives like Vigyan Jyoti, scholarships, fellowships, and research grants to further their pursuits.

Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Dr M Ravichandran, highlighted that the Ministry supports student participation in IESO by organizing the Indian National Earth Science Olympiad (INESO) across 300 centres annually. Around 30 students are shortlisted, and four finalists are selected to represent India at the global level.

About International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO)

The International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO), established in 2003 by the International Geoscience Education Organization (IGEO), is an annual competition for secondary school students (Class IX–XII). India has been participating since 2007 and hosted the 10th edition in Mysore in 2013.
