Pune: The Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM), a premier national institute under the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, has announced the launch of its AICTE-approved two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) with a specialization in Cooperation.
The new programme is set to play a pivotal role in developing future-ready leaders for India’s cooperative ecosystem.
The official inauguration took place at the VAMNICOM campus in Pune, led by Dr Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Secretary, Union Ministry of Cooperation, in the presence of Pankaj Kumar Bansal, Additional Secretary, and Dr Suva Kanta Mohanty, Director of VAMNICOM and CICTAB.
The launch event was attended by faculty members, students, and dignitaries from across the cooperative education and training sector.
“This programme is a critical step in building a cadre of trained professionals to lead India’s cooperative movement,” said Dr Suva Kanta Mohanty. “It aligns with our national goal of professionalizing the sector through future-oriented management education.”

The new PGDM programme by VAMNICOM focuses on developing core competencies in:
- Cooperative governance and financial management
- Rural development and inclusive business models
- Strategic innovation and sustainability in cooperative enterprises
- Ethical leadership and cooperative values
As part of the broader mission of the Ministry of Cooperation, the initiative aims to modernize cooperative education by offering a structured and skill-based curriculum tailored to meet the real-world needs of cooperative institutions, especially in rural and semi-urban regions.
The PGDM programme is expected to produce graduates who are well-equipped to bring innovation, accountability, and scalability to cooperative businesses across sectors such as agriculture, banking, dairy, and self-help groups.
