The evaluation followed the assessment of 13 applications received in the fourth round of the PLI Scheme for White Goods, with all five provisionally selected applicants engaged in AC component manufacturing.

Eight additional applicants have been referred to the Committee of Experts (CoE) for detailed examination and recommendations. Details of the provisionally selected applicants have been placed in the annexure.

Overall, a total of 85 companies selected under the PLI Scheme for White Goods—covering Air Conditioners and LED Lights—are expected to invest ₹11,198 crore. These investments are projected to result in cumulative production of ₹1,90,050 crore over the scheme period.

Under the scheme, manufacturers of air conditioners will produce key components such as compressors, copper tubes (plain and/or grooved), control assemblies for indoor and outdoor units (IDUs and ODUs), heat exchangers, BLDC motors, sheet metal components, valves, and cross-flow fans.

For LED lights, manufacturing will include components such as LED chip packaging, LED drivers, LED engines, LED light management systems, and metallized films for capacitors.

Background and Objectives of the PLI Scheme for White Goods

The Union Cabinet approved the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for White Goods (Air Conditioners and LED Lights) on 7 April 2021, with a total outlay of ₹6,238 crore.

The scheme is being implemented from FY 2021–22 to FY 2028–29 and was notified by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on 16 April 2021.

The PLI Scheme for White Goods aims to strengthen India’s domestic manufacturing ecosystem for AC and LED components and integrate the country more deeply into global supply chains.

Incentives ranging from 6% to 4% are offered on incremental sales on a reducing basis for five years, following a base year and a one-year gestation period. Domestic value addition under the scheme is expected to increase from the current 20–25% to 75–80%.
