Pune: Berlin School of Business and Innovation (BSBI), Germany, and MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU), Pune, have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening global higher education through academic collaboration, research partnerships, and international mobility.
The agreement marks a significant step toward expanding global learning opportunities for Indian students while fostering innovation, technology-driven education, and cross-cultural engagement.
The MoU between Berlin School of Business and Innovation and MIT-WPU was signed by Dr. Rahul V. Karad, Executive President, MIT-WPU, Pune, and Prof. Dr. Kyriakos Kouveliotis, Provost, Berlin School of Business and Innovation (BSBI), Berlin, and Chief Academic Officer, Global University Systems, Germany.
The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Shiv Tripathi, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, BSBI, Berlin, and Ganesh Pokale, Registrar, MIT-WPU Pune.
The collaboration between MIT-WPU and the Berlin School of Business and Innovation is designed to promote academic and cultural exchanges, joint research initiatives, international student and faculty mobility, and technology-enabled learning.
The partnership also aims to prepare graduates with global competencies required in an increasingly interconnected world.
Speaking on the occasion, Ganesh Pokale, Registrar, MIT-WPU Pune, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating that MIT-WPU and the Berlin School of Business and Innovation are coming together through this MoU to build bridges that will benefit the entire academic community.
Echoing this sentiment, Prof. Dr. Kyriakos Kouveliotis said that the partnership marks the beginning of a new chapter in Indian-European educational relations.
He emphasized that both institutions will immediately begin driving active student and faculty exchanges, strengthening common research ties, and coordinating reciprocal bilateral visits to enrich the learning experience.
Addressing the MIT-WPU faculty, Prof. Dr. Kouveliotis presented his vision for the future of global education, highlighting the responsible integration of Artificial Intelligence into academic institutions.
He explained that automating administrative responsibilities such as formatting and syllabus updates would allow educators to dedicate more time to student mentoring and meaningful communication.
He further stated that institutions using AI in this manner would be able to deliver richer, high-value educational experiences rather than focusing on reducing costs or faculty positions.
Discussing international education trends, Prof. Dr. Kouveliotis observed that nearly 70% of his students across five German institutions are from India.
While acknowledging the benefits of studying abroad, he encouraged Indian educational institutions to bring world-class opportunities to India to help reverse the “brain drain” of talented professionals permanently taking their expertise overseas.
He also praised MIT-WPU’s Life Transformation Centre for promoting a culture of continuous learning and upskilling.
Concluding his address, Prof. Dr. Kouveliotis commended MIT-WPU for combining a strong academic foundation with a distinctive philosophical identity rooted in world peace, harmony, and conflict resolution.
He noted that while many Western universities remain heavily focused on profit targets, MIT-WPU’s ethical approach positions it to emerge as a global innovation hub.
He further envisioned the university contributing international solutions in sectors including healthcare innovation, climate technologies, smart manufacturing, and sustainable development while nurturing responsible global citizens through its partnership with the Berlin School of Business and Innovation.
