New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) under the civil sector across India.

The move aims to meet the growing educational needs of children of Central Government employees, including those in Defence and Paramilitary services.

₹5,862 Crore Approved for New Kendriya Vidyalayas

The estimated financial requirement for these schools is approximately ₹5,862.55 crore over nine years, beginning from 2026–27. This includes ₹2,585.52 crore for capital expenditure and ₹3,277.03 crore for operational costs.

Notably, for the first time, all 57 KVs will include Balvatikas – three years of foundational pre-primary education – in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Expansion Across 17 States and UTs

The approval follows the sanctioning of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas in December 2024, with the latest expansion covering 17 states and union territories. Of the 57 new schools, 20 will be established in districts currently without a KV, 14 in aspirational districts, 4 in Left-Wing Extremism-affected regions, and 5 in North-Eastern and hilly areas.

Seven new Kendriya Vidyalayas are sponsored by the Ministry of Home Affairs, while the remaining 50 are backed by state and UT authorities.

Employment and Student Benefits

Each full-fledged KV will cater to approximately 1,520 students, resulting in a total capacity of about 86,640 students across the 57 schools. The expansion will also create 4,617 permanent direct employment opportunities for teachers and staff.

Additionally, construction and infrastructure development will generate jobs for skilled and unskilled workers.

Strengthening the Kendriya Vidyalaya Network

Currently, there are 1,288 functional Kendriya Vidyalayas, including three international schools in Moscow, Kathmandu, and Tehran, with a total enrolment of nearly 13.62 lakh students.

Among them, 913 have been designated as PM Shri schools under NEP 2020, reflecting the government’s commitment to quality education.

Renowned for academic excellence, modern infrastructure, and innovative teaching practices, Kendriya Vidyalayas consistently deliver top results in CBSE examinations.

With this expansion, the government aims to strengthen national integration and bring quality education to underserved regions across the country.
