ZF Begins Local Production of Electric Park Brake System for Indian EV Platform

Electric Park Brake

Pune: ZF Group, a global leader in driveline and chassis technology, has officially begun production of its Electric Park Brake (EPB) system in India.

This marks a historic first for ZF in the Indian passenger vehicle market and aligns with its commitment to delivering advanced, locally manufactured mobility solutions that cater to the nation’s evolving electrification goals.

The Electric Park Brake system is being supplied to a prominent Indian automotive OEM for its newly launched all-electric vehicle platform. Thousands of units are expected to be deployed over the coming years.

The system is engineered for low drag, enhanced fuel efficiency, and superior NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) performance, providing both performance and sustainability.

Electric Park Brake: Innovation Engineered in India

ZF’s EPB system represents a critical step in electrifying mechanical vehicle systems. It integrates seamlessly into the vehicle’s braking architecture and offers dynamic actuation, emergency braking via two-wheel ABS, and intelligent brake pad wear sensing.

Its modular design enables scalability across a range of vehicle segments – from passenger cars to light commercial vehicles and trucks.

The company’s presence in Bengaluru, a major automotive R&D hub, and Pune, a manufacturing and engineering powerhouse, supports its continued innovation and localization.

ZF’s India operations play a pivotal role in global product development and serve as a launchpad for cutting-edge technologies like the EPB system.

Safety Meets Efficiency

The EPB not only improves vehicle efficiency and safety but also supports driver comfort through one-touch operation. Its elimination of mechanical linkages contributes to lower component wear and enables future-ready features in software-defined vehicles.

Make in India, for the World

Commenting on the milestone, Akash Passey, President of ZF Group India, said, “The SOP of ZF’s first Electric Park Brake in India, on a product like the all-new EV platform, embodies our commitment to provide best-in-class mobility solutions.

We are proud to support Indian OEMs with innovations that combine performance, safety, and sustainability.”

ZF has already produced over 250 million EPB calipers globally. This India launch expands its market footprint while advancing the government’s Make in India initiative and helping Indian OEMs compete globally in the EV and smart mobility race.
