IFBEC Launches National Mission Committee to Drive Circular Fashion

National Mission Committee

Mumbai: In a major stride toward sustainable industrial transformation, the International Fashion Business Exchange Council (IFBEC) officially launched the National Mission Committee (NMC) at the World Trade Center, Mumbai, coinciding with World Environment Day 2025.

The initiative aims to position India as the Responsible Fashion Business Capital of the World by 2030.

The newly formed National Mission Committee will serve as the strategic think tank and execution arm of IFBEC, uniting policymakers, industry leaders, green technology pioneers, and grassroots organizations to advance India’s leadership in sustainable textiles and circular fashion.

The launch ceremony witnessed the participation of prominent figures, including Roop Rashi Mahapatra, CEO of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), alongside representatives from Reliance Industries, Bestseller, United Way Mumbai, IDH, and other sustainability stakeholders.

“India is inherently circular by tradition. It’s time we reclaim that narrative,” stated Roop Rashi Mahapatra. “Textile waste is a resource – not refuse. But the real transformation starts at the grassroots, not in boardrooms.”

Key Objectives of the National Mission Committee:
  • Accelerate circular fashion and green textile innovation
  • Align India’s fashion exports with international sustainability standards
  • Empower SMEs and artisans for global market access
  • Strengthen institutional finance and regulatory frameworks for ethical production

“The National Mission Committee isn’t just a body – it’s a blueprint for change,” said Neha Gupta, Founder of IFBEC. “This is our collective commitment to redefine India’s textile narrative through sustainability, craftsmanship, and shared accountability.”

The NMC also reflects a broader movement to combat climate change, reduce fashion’s environmental footprint, and create value chains rooted in ethics and innovation.

Harshavardhan Chauhan, Founder of Bharat YEF, emphasized: “Circularity is not a concept – it’s dharma. India must lead not as a factory for the world, but as its future.”

The event set the tone for a transformational journey – from waste to wealth, volume to value, and tradition to innovation – solidifying India’s position as a global pioneer in sustainable textile policy and practice.
