Medhavi Skills University Launches Global Centre of Excellence in Rail Safety with AIRSC

Medhavi Skills University

Mumbai: In a strategic move to redefine railway safety education and workforce development in India, Medhavi Skills University (MSU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the All India Rail Safety Council (AIRSC) to launch a 24×7 Global Centre of Excellence in Rail Safety, Technology, and Management.

This collaboration signifies a bold step toward building a new generation of globally trained railway professionals.

The joint initiative between Medhavi Skills University and AIRSC is geared toward bridging the critical talent gap in India’s railway safety infrastructure. With over 2.74 lakh vacancies in Indian Railways -more than 1.7 lakh in safety-critical positions as reported by PTI in June 2023 – this partnership arrives at a crucial juncture.

Medhavi Skills University: Industry-Driven Education for National Needs

The programs offered under this Centre of Excellence will include UG and PG degrees, specialized training, and research-driven projects, all aligned with the evolving demands of the railway sector.

These courses will be curated under the umbrella of the AIRSC Academy of Safety and Disaster Management and fully aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, supporting flexible, outcome-based, and experiential learning.

The educational delivery will follow a three-tiered model – Online, Blended, and Traditional – in order to reach learners across geographies. A dedicated digital learning portal will provide access to customized course content, track student progress, and facilitate industry engagement.

Medhavi Skills University will roll out AIRSC-approved courses at its own campuses, affiliated institutions, and authorised centers nationwide.

Kuldip Sarma, Co-Founder and Pro-Chancellor of MSU, commented: “This partnership marks a transformative moment in workforce-led education. By combining MSU’s skill-based learning framework with AIRSC’s expertise, we’re creating a world-class platform for rail safety education, job-ready skills, and career opportunities across the global rail ecosystem.”

Dr R Padmanabhan, Chairman, AIRSC, added: “We envision a future-ready railway sector with a strong safety foundation. This collaboration allows us to bring academic insight into rail infrastructure and operations, training professionals equipped to implement world-class safety protocols and innovations.”

Transforming the Future of Indian Railways

This initiative is not just a response to current gaps in manpower, but a proactive blueprint for the future of railway education and infrastructure. It aims to elevate safety standards and build a globally competent, safety-first workforce through multidisciplinary education, applied research, and strategic upskilling.
