Avestagenome Project Partners with IISc to Advance Longevity and Genomics Research in India

Avestagenome Project

Bengaluru: Avestagenome Project International has signed a landmark agreement with the Indian Institute of Science’s (IISc) Longevity India initiative.

This collaboration aims to accelerate scientific research in aging, longevity, and precision healthcare, marking a significant milestone in India’s life sciences sector.

Founded by Dr Villoo Morawala-Patell, the Avestagenome Project integrates genomics, systems biology, and translational medicine to decode the molecular mechanisms of aging and chronic diseases.

This agreement with IISc’s Longevity India takes forward the mission of translating genetic insights into real-world healthcare solutions.

The collaboration brings together Avestagenome’s deeply annotated Biobank and multi-omics datasets, derived from the genetically distinct Zoroastrian-Parsi community, with the scientific expertise and advanced laboratory infrastructure of IISc.

Both institutions will jointly pursue research projects, secure national and international funding, and work toward clinically meaningful outcomes in precision health.

Avestagenome Project’s Vision in Action: Research Focus Areas

Project 1: Cardiovascular Risk Profiling

The first joint project will focus on cardiovascular disease, analyzing cholesterol derivatives (oxysterols) and whole genome sequencing data from the Parsi community.

By integrating genomic and lipidomic datasets, the study aims to identify genetic variants associated with elevated cardiovascular risk and design personalized prevention strategies.

Project 2: Tackling Cellular Aging

The second project will study mitochondrial dysfunction and its role in cellular aging. Using Avesthagen’s proprietary natural compound libraries, researchers will explore plant-based solutions to restore mitochondrial function.

Advanced epigenetic profiling will further examine how aging affects gene regulation, laying the groundwork for therapies against age-related conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and diabetes.

Transforming Translational Health Research

The Avestagenome Project and Longevity India will leverage advanced genomic, lipidomic, and epigenetic profiling to uncover mechanisms of healthy aging.

Expected outcomes include novel biomarker discovery, AI-enabled risk models, population-specific diagnostics, and innovative therapeutics. The partnership also aims to generate peer-reviewed publications, intellectual property, and commercial healthcare products.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Longevity India, IISc in decoding the molecular blueprint of healthy aging,” said Dr. Villoo Morawala-Patell, Founder and CMD of Avesthagen Limited and the Avestagenome Project.

Prof Deepak Saini, Convenor of Longevity India, IISc, added, “By combining Avestagenome’s unique Biobank with IISc’s scientific depth, we aim to uncover genetic and molecular insights that will shape the future of longevity research in India.”

This collaboration between IISc and the Avestagenome Project sets a benchmark for academic-industry partnerships in India. By combining data-driven research with ethical innovation, the initiative aspires to place Indian science at the forefront of global precision healthcare and longevity research.
