Suzlon S144 Achieves Lowest Carbon Footprint in Wind Energy

Suzlon S144

Pune: Suzlon Group announced that its Made in India wind turbine model, the Suzlon S144, has achieved a significant sustainability milestone.

The turbine has been independently verified to deliver the lowest Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) in India at just 6.17 grams of CO₂ per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity generated, measured across its entire lifecycle.

Suzlon S144 Certified for Lowest Carbon Emissions

The Product Carbon Footprint of Suzlon S144 has been validated by the Indian Register Quality Systems (IRQS), a certification body with over 30 years of expertise, under globally recognized standards including ISO/IEC 17029:2019, ISO 14067:2018, and ISO 14021:2016 + Amd 1:2021.

Additionally, TÜV SÜD Poland, a global certification leader with 150 years of experience, has also certified the Suzlon S144 as a low-carbon wind solution under ISO 14067 and ISO 14021 standards.

Sustainability-Driven Design and Manufacturing

The record-low carbon footprint of the Suzlon S144 is attributed to integrated sustainability measures across design, sourcing, and manufacturing. Key initiatives include:

  • Optimized design that reduced steel use by approximately 2.5 times.
  • Use of recycled steel and low-carbon Green Steel (<2.2 t CO₂e/t of production).
  • Adoption of renewable energy in manufacturing operations.
  • Local sourcing of 83.25% of components from Tier-1 Indian suppliers.
  • Enhanced product lifecycle of 25 years for long-term efficiency.

Commenting on the milestone, JP Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, stated: “True sustainability leadership means embedding sustainability into every process and product across the value chain. For over three decades, this has been Suzlon’s philosophy. With the Suzlon S144, we have demonstrated that world-class clean energy can be designed and built sustainably in India. Our next step is to advance from lowest-carbon manufacturing to true circularity, setting new industry benchmarks.”

Driving India’s Renewable Energy Goals

The Suzlon S144 aligns with India’s broader renewable energy and climate action agenda by reducing carbon emissions and supporting long-term clean energy generation. This innovation strengthens Suzlon’s position as a global leader in sustainable wind energy solutions.
