Mumbai: Sangita Jindal, Chairperson of JSW Foundation, has been conferred with the prestigious French honour Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters).
The distinction was bestowed by the Ambassador of France to India, H.E. Thierry Mathou, at a ceremony held at her Mumbai residence.
The award recognises Sangita Jindal’s outstanding contributions to the promotion of arts, culture, and heritage conservation in India, along with her efforts in strengthening Indo-French cultural partnerships.

Sangita Jindal’s Contributions to Arts and Indo-French Cultural Exchange
As the driving force behind the JSW Foundation, Sangita Jindal has placed culture at the core of its mission. She initiated artist residencies at Hampi Art Labs, enabling rich collaborations between Indian and French creators.
In 2024, she partnered with France during the Paris Olympic Games to highlight the intersection of art and sport. Later in 2025, she is set to participate in the exhibition Textile Matters at the Mobilier National in Paris, further expanding Indo-French cultural ties.
Presenting the honour, Ambassador Thierry Mathou stated: “Through her passion, vision and generosity, Mrs Jindal has profoundly enriched the cultural landscape of India and brought our two countries closer together. This decoration reflects France’s deep gratitude and admiration for her achievements and her commitment to building cultural bridges.”

Accepting the French honour, Sangita Jindal expressed gratitude, saying: “I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition from France. I accept this distinction as a tribute to the many artists, craftspeople, conservators, and institutions I have had the privilege to work alongside.
