New Delhi: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, while addressing the 17th CII Global MedTech Summit, called upon the Indian MedTech industry to set ambitious growth targets and leverage the government’s Research Development and Innovation Scheme.
He emphasized that the sector must become a global hub for manufacturing and innovation, moving beyond dependence on imports.

At the CII Global MedTech Summit, Goyal applauded the industry’s resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic and its contribution to India’s self-reliance in healthcare.
He underlined the importance of securing supply chains, developing export markets, and driving research and development to create affordable, high-quality medical devices for India and global markets alike.
Trade Agreements and Policy Support for MedTech Sector
The Minister shared that negotiations for Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with the EU, Mauritius, Oman, UAE, Peru, and Chile are in advanced stages, alongside talks with the US for a bilateral trade treaty. These agreements are expected to open new markets, attract investments, and enhance innovation.
He highlighted the government’s support through the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, streamlined regulatory frameworks, and increased funding for MedTech research and development.

Focus on Preventive Healthcare and Skilled Workforce
Goyal urged the MedTech industry to prioritize preventive healthcare, patient welfare, and affordability. He called for significant investments in domestic manufacturing, R&D, and skill development to create a workforce capable of supporting next-generation medical technologies. He reiterated that MedTech innovations must remain accessible to all, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive healthcare.
