AstraZeneca Global Hub in Bengaluru Scales Up with INR 166 Cr Investment, 400 AI-Focused Jobs

Bengaluru: AstraZeneca, the global science-led biopharmaceutical leader, has announced a ₹166 crore investment to expand its AstraZeneca Global Hub in Bengaluru, India.

This expansion will create 400 new jobs, enhancing AstraZeneca’s capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI), digital health, global business services, and cutting-edge research and development (R&D).

The AstraZeneca Global Hub in Bengaluru will now support nearly 1,300 employees and will serve as a key strategic center in AstraZeneca’s global innovation network.

This marks the company’s second major investment in India within a year, following the scale-up of its Global Innovation and Technology Centre (GITC) in Chennai. With these expansions, AstraZeneca India Private Limited (AZIPL) is set to reach a combined workforce of almost 4,000 employees.

This facility strengthens our ability to deliver automated, data-driven, and patient-centric solutions. The rich talent pool and innovation ecosystem in Karnataka will be vital in this journey,” said Jackie Crockford, VP – Global Business Services, AstraZeneca.

Key priorities of the expanded AstraZeneca Global Hub in Bengaluru include:
  • Advanced clinical research aligned with AstraZeneca’s global therapeutic areas
  • Development of AI-powered digital health and medical technologies
  • Centralized data analytics for clinical trial optimization
  • Global regulatory compliance and pharmacovigilance support

The Government of Karnataka has welcomed the expansion as a boost to India’s global leadership in life sciences and healthcare innovation.

“AstraZeneca’s investment underscores Bengaluru’s strength as a global biotechnology and R&D hub,” said Dinesh Gundu Rao, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka.

Designed with sustainability at its core, the new facility is targeting LEED Platinum certification and is currently powered by 75% renewable energy. It also includes advanced wastewater recycling and IoT-enabled systems to enhance energy efficiency.
