ZF Test Systems Secures Three Independent Orders in India for Battery, Tyre and E-Axle Testing

ZF Test Systems

Pune: ZF Test Systems has secured three independent orders in India for battery testing, tyre testing, and e-axle testing, marking a significant milestone for ZF Group India and reinforcing its role in supporting the country’s evolving automotive safety and certification ecosystem.

The ZF Test Systems wins come from three independent automotive testing agencies operating under the umbrella of the National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP), the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), and the Government of India.

The achievement positions ZF Test Systems as a comprehensive testing systems partner with proven capabilities across multiple testing disciplines while aligning with India’s regulatory and certification framework for the automotive industry.

ZF, a global leader in driveline and chassis technology, stated that the orders place the company at the center of India’s efforts to strengthen vehicle certification processes and establish world-class road safety systems.

The contracts cover battery testing, tyre testing, and e-axle testing, all of which play a crucial role as India accelerates regulatory measures aimed at making vehicle certification more rigorous, independent, and reliable.

The ZF Test Systems portfolio emphasizes high local content under the Government of India’s “Make in India” initiative, supporting the nation’s strategic manufacturing and technological development goals.

The company also highlighted its extensive experience in transmission testing, noting that ZF Test Systems have tested more than 100 million transmissions globally, demonstrating proven reliability and performance.

Akash Passey, President, ZF Group India, said: “Testing agencies are the final arbiters of vehicle safety, the bodies whose certification regulators and the public trust. Being chosen across three independent and Government agencies, for three distinct testing disciplines, is a powerful validation of ZF’s accuracy, reliability, and deep understanding of India’s regulatory and testing landscape.

ZF Group is proud to provide the technical foundation that makes world-class automotive safety infrastructure possible in India, not just for our OEM customers but also for Government and independent testing agencies.”

The latest orders further strengthen the presence of ZF Test Systems in India’s testing and validation landscape at a time when safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance are becoming increasingly important for the automotive sector.

Thomas Trebitsch, Vice President, ZF Test Systems and Testing, said: “Over the past years we have been focusing on the tyre industry in India and introducing our complete product portfolio to India. As the market develops rapidly towards regulations and safety, there is a strong need for robust and world-class testing technology.

ZF brings its global competence and a deep understanding of the Indian auto industry to address its specific needs.”

  • Battery Testing: Supporting India’s Expanding EV Ecosystem

As electric vehicles continue to transform the Indian automotive industry, ZF Test Systems offers battery testing solutions designed to address safety, performance, and regulatory requirements. The company’s battery testing systems cover the entire battery value chain, including cell, module, and pack-level testing.

The testing solutions are designed for performance and endurance evaluation, environmental testing, and mechanical abuse testing. The systems comply with global and national standards, including UL, IEC, UN, IS, and automotive standards such as LV124. In addition, ZF Test Systems supports end-of-line (EoL) production validation processes to ensure battery packs meet quality and safety standards before deployment.

  • Tyre Testing: Advancing Safety and Regulatory Compliance

With tyres serving as the primary contact point between a vehicle and the road, tyre quality directly impacts safety, vehicle stability, and overall performance. As India moves toward mandatory tyre testing through initiatives such as BNVSAP, Quality Control Orders (QCOs), and the AIS 142 TPMS Mandate, the demand for advanced testing infrastructure continues to grow.

To address these requirements, ZF Test Systems offers the Tyre Efficiency Tester (TET.lab), which the company describes as the world’s most precise rolling resistance test equipment. The system is certified for compliance with global rolling resistance regulations and features a unique hub design that enhances measurement repeatability.

The platform also offers optional functionalities including dynamic slip and camber adjustment, tyre drive capability, and low-temperature testing. These features enable testing laboratories to evaluate motorcycles, passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles, and heavy commercial vehicles using a single modular platform.

Globally, more than 500 million tyres are tested annually using ZF Test Systems, underscoring the scale and reliability of the company’s tyre testing technologies.

  • Powertrain and E-Mobility Testing Capabilities

The ZF Test Systems portfolio also includes advanced e-mobility testing solutions built around a high-performance drive module. These test benches integrate a drive bearing module with a customizable receiving module designed for various test objects.

The modular architecture supports testing requirements for both conventional transmissions and electric drivetrains. Depending on customer requirements, configurations can be fixed, inclinable, or swiveling and are available for single-machine as well as multi-machine operations.

The systems incorporate frequency converters, advanced measurement technology, automation capabilities, and high-dynamic control systems to deliver precise and reliable testing performance.

Strengthening India’s Automotive Testing Infrastructure

The three new orders reinforce the growing role of ZF Test Systems in supporting India’s ambition to build a world-class automotive ecosystem focused on safety, sustainability, and regulatory excellence.

With extensive expertise in testing systems deployed across automotive manufacturers and testing authorities worldwide, ZF Test Systems continues to support evolving industry requirements as regulatory standards become more stringent and quality expectations continue to rise.

The company aims to serve as a technology partner across the automotive value chain, from production and validation to certification and compliance.
