ZF BMW 8HP Transmission Agreement Secures Long-Term Supply Through Late 2030s

Pune: ZF Friedrichshafen AG and the BMW Group have entered into a long-term supply partnership with the signing of the ZF BMW 8HP transmission agreement, focused on passenger car drive systems and the continued development of the 8-speed automatic transmission (8HP).

The ZF BMW 8HP transmission agreement reinforces both companies’ commitment to future-oriented, low-emission mobility solutions.

Valued at several billion euros, the contract will run through the late 2030s, providing long-term planning stability and technological flexibility for both ZF and BMW.

The collaboration supports an open-technology approach, with a particular emphasis on electrified drive concepts.

ZF BMW 8HP Transmission Agreement to Drive Electrified Mobility

Under the ZF BMW 8HP transmission agreement, the proven 8HP transmission platform will undergo continuous development to meet evolving requirements across conventional, hybrid, and electrified powertrains.

The objective is to deliver enhanced efficiency, performance, and adaptability for future vehicle architectures.

Mathias Miedreich, CEO of ZF, stated that the agreement sends a strong signal for innovation, efficiency, and sustainability at a time when the automotive industry is undergoing rapid transformation.

He highlighted the strategic importance of the 8-speed automatic transmission as a key technology enabling the transition of modern drive systems.
