Pune Comprehensive Mobility Plan

Pune: The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) has proposed a ₹1,33,535 crore Pune Comprehensive Mobility Plan covering the city and the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR).

The Pune Comprehensive Mobility Plan, presented to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, includes massive metro expansion, upgraded bus networks, and extensive road infrastructure projects to tackle chronic traffic congestion.

Pune Comprehensive Mobility Plan: Key Highlights
  • Metro and Metro-Lite Expansion: 312 km of new corridors in addition to existing lines.
  • BRTS and High-Frequency Bus Routes: 80.5 km of new BRTS and 46.3 km of high-frequency bus corridors.
  • Bus Fleet Expansion: 4,000 new buses in the near term, scaling to 11,564 by 2054, covering 641 km of new bus routes.
  • Terminal Redevelopment: 12 PMPML terminals to be redeveloped, 11 new ones built, along with redevelopment of 5 depots and creation of 15 new depots.
  • Freight Connectivity: 14 truck terminals, 7 logistics hubs, and 26 multimodal hubs.
  • Airport Connectivity: Purandar International Airport to be linked via metro, rail, and road.

Road & Non-Motorised Infrastructure

The plan envisions 552 km of missing link roads, 438 km of road widening, 290 km of ring roads, 18 grade separators, 19 flyovers, and 20 railway overbridges.

For pedestrians and cyclists, Pune will gain 341 km of footpaths and 230 km of cycle tracks, while Pimpri-Chinchwad will see 266 km of footpaths and 170 km of cycle tracks.

Pune Comprehensive Mobility Plan: Phased Investment Till 2054

  • By 2034: ₹62,282 crore
  • 2035–2044: ₹47,032 crore
  • 2045–2054: ₹24,221 crore

MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar said the plan covers 2,550 sq km, taking into account the city’s mobility needs till 2054. “Once implemented, this will significantly improve the speed, efficiency, and sustainability of transportation in the region,” he added.
