Thane: In a rare and critical medical case, KIMS Hospitals Thane successfully revived a 2.5-month-old baby, Mast. Hanzal Shafiuddin, after administering 35 minutes of continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
The infant, admitted to the hospital’s emergency department on July 14, 2025, presented with prolonged seizures and altered consciousness, which quickly escalated to respiratory distress and cardiac arrhythmia.

Swift Emergency Response at KIMS Hospitals Thane
When the infant went into cardiac arrest, the specialized team at KIMS Hospitals Thane immediately performed defibrillation and prolonged CPR, eventually restoring vital functions.
Post-revival, the baby was shifted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), where ventilatory and inotropic support, along with other critical interventions, were provided to stabilize the condition.
Multidisciplinary Treatment and Steady Recovery
Over the following days, the child was managed through a comprehensive treatment plan that included anti-seizure medication, pneumonia management, antihypertensive therapy, bronchodilator support, and physiotherapy to address limb weakness resulting from hypoxic-ischemic changes observed on MRI.
The infant is now hemodynamically stable, gradually being weaned off respiratory support, and responding positively to physiotherapy.
“Cases like these are extremely rare and critical. It was a race against time, but our team was determined to do everything possible to revive and stabilize the child. The baby’s resilience, combined with coordinated medical intervention, is leading to a promising recovery,” said Dr G M Shanbhag, Consultant Pediatric Intensivist, KIMS Hospitals Thane.
“After 30 minutes of CPR, the risk of neurological impairment is always high. But this little one is truly our miracle baby — within just two weeks, he recovered completely, started breastfeeding, and resumed normal activities,” added Dr Jaykishan Tripathi, Associate Consultant – Pediatric Critical Care, KIMS Hospitals Thane.
