The Green Skills and EV training initiative is being implemented by the Edunet Foundation and will span Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, with a multi-tiered training framework to be delivered across selected Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs).
This comprehensive Green Skills and EV training program includes:
- 240-hour advanced EV Technician course at 4 NSTIs
- 90-hour job-oriented EV skills course at 12 Shell-supported ITIs with EV labs
- 50-hour foundational green skills modules at additional ITIs without physical labs
The curriculum covers EV systems, battery diagnostics, digital tools, and advanced safety protocols, and will be taught by more than 250 trainers who will undergo dedicated upskilling. Students will also receive joint certification from Shell and DGT and benefit from structured placement support, strengthening their employability in the green mobility ecosystem.
EV Labs and National-Scale Impact
A key highlight is the development of state-of-the-art EV skill labs at select institutions, offering real-world technical training aligned with national and international industry standards. These labs, supported by Shell India, will host expert-led sessions, digital simulations, and practical learning modules.

“This Green Skills and EV training initiative is part of our larger vision to create a workforce that is not only job-ready but climate-ready,” said Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), MSDE. “We are equipping young Indians with skills to lead in the global green economy.”
Green Skills and EV Training: A Model for Public–Private Partnership
Trishaljit Sethi, Director General, DGT, emphasized the program’s potential: “By embedding electric vehicle technologies into vocational training, we are ensuring real-world industry alignment. This will substantially enhance youth employability in the fast-growing green mobility sector.”
Mansi Madan Tripathy, Chairperson, Shell India, added, “At Shell, we are committed to enabling employment opportunities by equipping youth with green energy skills. Our partnership with DGT is a significant step toward building a lower-carbon, skilled future workforce.”
The training program also complements national efforts such as the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) scheme and supports India’s net-zero 2070 ambition, addressing the urgent need for skilled manpower in renewable energy and EV ecosystems.
