Davos, Switzerland: CANEUS International, in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra, has announced plans to establish the world’s first dedicated Global Mid-TRL (Technology Readiness Level 4–6) Innovation Acceleration and Skilling Institute in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
The announcement was made at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, aligning with the WEF 2026 theme of deploying innovation at scale, responsibly.
The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in the presence of Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis and Dr Milind Pimprikar of CANEUS International.
The proposed institute will focus on Mid-TRL innovation, acceleration and skilling across frontier technology domains including aerospace, space, energy and deep technology.

CANEUS International to Lead Mid-TRL Innovation Acceleration and Skilling
The institute aims to address critical gaps in technology commercialisation by supporting innovations at the Mid-TRL stage through rapid prototyping, systems integration, validation, and flight or field trials.
Founded in 2000, Canada-based CANEUS International is a global organisation focused on accelerating next-generation systems and enabling pathways from laboratory breakthroughs to early production and real-world deployment.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reiterated Maharashtra’s commitment to fostering innovation-led growth and global partnerships.
He highlighted the State’s readiness to collaborate with CANEUS International in creating advanced innovation centres across dynamic and emerging sectors, positioning Maharashtra as a global hub for frontier technologies.
Dr Milind Pimprikar, Chairman of CANEUS International, stated that the institute will play a critical role in bridging the “valley of death” by enabling Mid-TRL technologies to move efficiently from research environments to qualification and early-stage manufacturing, enhancing global competitiveness.

Global Collaboration and Industry-Driven Ecosystem
Planned over a proposed area of 10 million square feet, the institute will be developed in collaboration with OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, regulators, research institutions and centres of excellence.
The initiative is expected to serve as a major catalyst for attracting global conglomerates and advanced manufacturing investments into India.
Dr Pimprikar also acknowledged the proactive support of the Government of Maharashtra, noting the State’s strong track record as a leading investment destination with high rankings in Ease of Doing Business and sustained FDI inflows.
The proposed institute aligns with Maharashtra’s long-term development roadmap under the Viksit Maharashtra 2047 vision, supporting the State’s ambition to become a trillion-dollar economy.
It is also aligned with the objectives of the Maharashtra Industries, Investment & Services Policy (MIISP) 2025.
The partnership further reinforces the Government of Maharashtra’s focus on industry-aligned skilling through public-private partnerships, demand-driven training programmes, institutional capacity building and the creation of workforce pathways tailored to emerging and strategic sectors.
