Ashok Leyland Greenfield Factory Launched in Lucknow to Drive Clean Mobility

Lucknow: Commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland, the Indian flagship of the Hinduja Group, has inaugurated its new Ashok Leyland Greenfield Factory in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, with a strategic focus on clean and sustainable mobility.

The integrated commercial vehicle manufacturing facility was inaugurated by Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh; Rajnath Singh, Minister of Defence; and H D Kumaraswamy, Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India.

The inauguration event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Deputy Chief Ministers and senior ministers from the Uttar Pradesh Government, diplomats from multiple countries, prominent industrialists and business leaders from India and abroad, Ashok Leyland’s global dealers, suppliers, and partners, along with senior leadership from the Hinduja Group and Ashok Leyland.

Ashok Leyland Greenfield Factory to Strengthen Electric Vehicle Manufacturing

Located at the Sarojini Nagar Industrial Area near Lucknow Airport and spread across more than 70 acres, the Ashok Leyland Greenfield Factory is the company’s most advanced and sustainable manufacturing facility globally.

The plant is primarily focused on the production of electric vehicles and is designed with an annual production capacity of up to 5,000 vehicles.

A majority of the workforce has been recruited from Uttar Pradesh, with a significant representation of women employees, reinforcing inclusive employment practices.

Commenting on the inauguration, Dheeraj Hinduja, Chairman, Ashok Leyland, said that the new plant marks an important milestone for the company in Uttar Pradesh.

He highlighted the Group’s commitment to driving economic growth, generating employment, and supporting long-term regional development.

He added that the facility reflects Ashok Leyland’s resolve to contribute to the future of India’s commercial vehicle industry while advancing sustainable mobility and progressing towards its Net Zero emission goals.

Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director & CEO, Ashok Leyland, said that Uttar Pradesh’s consistent focus on environmental responsibility and sustainable development made it a natural choice for the company’s green mobility initiatives.

He noted that the company’s ambition to achieve Net Zero by 2048 played a key role in establishing the facility. Equipped with advanced technology and high levels of automation, the plant underscores Ashok Leyland’s focus on quality, innovation, and electric mobility, particularly electric buses.

Designed as a green manufacturing facility, the Ashok Leyland Greenfield Factory incorporates rooftop solar panels, energy-efficient LED lighting, battery-operated in-plant logistics, positive water balance initiatives, and a zero-discharge system.

The facility is also expected to play a significant role in skill development and employment generation for the local workforce.

With Uttar Pradesh emerging as a leading state in electric vehicle adoption, the new Lucknow facility reinforces Ashok Leyland’s long-term commitment to supporting the state’s green mobility vision.

The plant further strengthens the company’s position in sustainable transportation while contributing to the development of a cleaner, more efficient, and future-ready mobility ecosystem for both the state and the country.
