Kota Bundi Airport

New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval for the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to develop a Greenfield Airport at Kota Bundi Airport in Rajasthan at an estimated cost of ₹1,507 crore.

Kota Bundi Airport to Strengthen Regional Connectivity

Kota, located on the banks of the Chambal River, is widely recognized as the industrial capital of Rajasthan and as India’s premier educational coaching hub.

The upcoming Kota Bundi Airport is expected to significantly improve connectivity, boost passenger traffic, and support regional economic growth.

The Government of Rajasthan has transferred 440.06 hectares of land to AAI for the project, which is designed to accommodate A-321 type aircraft.

Key Features of Kota Bundi Airport Project

The proposed infrastructure includes:

  • A terminal building spread over 20,000 sq.m., capable of handling 1,000 passengers during peak hours and an annual capacity of 2 million passengers.
  • A 3,200m x 45m runway (11/29).
  • An apron with seven parking bays for A-321 type aircraft.
  • Two link taxiways, ATC-cum-technical block, fire station, car park, and other allied facilities.

Need for Kota Bundi Airport

The existing Kota Airport, currently under AAI, has limited infrastructure, including a 1,220m x 38m runway suitable only for Code ‘B’ aircraft such as DO-228, a small apron, and a terminal building of 400 sq.m. with a peak-hour passenger handling capacity of just 50.

Due to urbanization and restricted land availability, the existing airport cannot be developed further for commercial operations.

The new Kota Bundi Airport is therefore a critical infrastructure project aimed at catering to anticipated traffic growth in the region while supporting the city’s industrial and educational prominence.
