Pune: To mark the centenary of Ernst Jandl, the world-renowned Austrian poet and a leading voice in experimental literature, the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Pune, in collaboration with the German Department of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), is organizing a special exhibition.
The exhibition, dedicated to celebrating Ernst Jandl’s life and work, will be hosted at The Box Studio, Pandurang Colony, off Karve Road, Erandwane, from 19th to 22nd August 2025 between 10 am and 7 pm.
It will be formally inaugurated on 18th August 2025 at 4 pm by Dr Bernhard Fetz, Director of the Literature Archive Vienna, Austria.

Ernst Jandl: A Pioneer in Experimental and Concrete Poetry
Recognized as one of the most influential poets in the German-speaking world, Ernst Jandl revolutionized literature with his experimental style.
His work encompassed Concrete Poetry, where language becomes the subject of the poem; Visual Poetry, where visual form is central; and Sound Poetry, where meaning is revealed through performance. His unique creative voice continues to inspire readers and audiences globally.
Pune Exhibition to Present Ernst Jandl’s Work in Multisensory Format
The Pune exhibition is designed to immerse visitors in a multisensory experience, featuring content in German, English, and Marathi.
The program includes 3D installations, soundscapes, visual projections, and artistic interpretations of Jandl’s poetry, making his groundbreaking use of sound, structure, and space accessible to a diverse audience.
Alicia Padros, Head of the Language Department and Deputy Director at Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Pune, said the exhibition aims to present Jandl’s inventive creativity in a dynamic and engaging manner. The initiative forms part of the Goethe-Institut’s commitment to promoting German as a foreign language while showcasing the culture of German-speaking countries in innovative ways.

Workshops on Ernst Jandl by Dr. Bernhard Fetz
In addition to the exhibition, Dr. Bernhard Fetz will conduct two workshops titled Ernst Jandl—one for teachers and one for students. These sessions will provide deeper insights into the poet’s works and his contributions to literature.
Visitors are invited to engage with the inventive world of Ernst Jandl, where poetry moves beyond the written page into a rich sensory experience of language, sound, and space.
