Pune: The Malabar Group, India’s leading diversified business conglomerate and the parent company of Malabar Gold & Diamonds, has announced a ₹150 crore allocation for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives for the fiscal year 2025-26. The Group unveiled its expanded plans at an event held on World Hunger Day, at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi.
Under its flagship Hunger Free World program, the Malabar Group will now provide 70,000 nutritious meals every day – serving 2.5 crore meals across India and Zambia over the course of the year.
This marks a significant scale-up from its cumulative 2.5 crore meals served over the last three years. Notably, 60% of the CSR budget has been earmarked for hunger and poverty alleviation, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goal 2 – Zero Hunger.
The announcement was made in the presence of Dr Amitabh Kant, former CEO of NITI Aayog and G-20 Sherpa, who officially launched the new phase of Malabar Group’s CSR efforts. He was joined by M P Ahammed, Chairman of Malabar Group, K P Abdul Salam, Vice Chairman, and O Asher, MD, India Operations, Malabar Gold & Diamonds.
“At Malabar Group, CSR is not just an obligation but a core value,” said M.P. Ahammed. “On May 28, our designated CSR Day, we reaffirm our commitment to creating lasting social impact. The hunger crisis affecting 295 million people globally demands urgent action—our efforts aim to be part of that solution.”
Key CSR Highlights by Malabar Group:
- Hunger Free World: Daily distribution of 70,000 meals—60,000 in India via 167 centres across 20 states and 10,000 in Zambia in partnership with local schools and authorities.
- Education: 716 micro-learning centres established in collaboration with Thanal, reaching over 32,000 street children. More than 9,000 of them have been mainstreamed into formal education. Scholarships awarded to 1.14 lakh girl students across India.
- Women Empowerment: Through the Grandma Homes initiative, Malabar offers free accommodation and care for destitute women in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kerala—with upcoming centres in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai.
- Healthcare & Disaster Relief: Plans to expand non-profit medical stores across Kerala for subsidised medicines. Currently operational in 27 locations with expansion plans for all 140 constituencies. The Uyirppu Project supports education for 134 children affected by the Wayanad landslide.
With this strategic expansion, Malabar Group continues its commitment to contributing 5% of company profits toward sustainable and inclusive social development.
