  • Slow Internet or Poor Network? TRAI Network Anubhav Platform Lets You Check Real User Test Results

    Network Anubhav Platform

New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has launched the Network Anubhav Platform, a geospatial and analytical dashboard that allows consumers to access location-specific internet speed test results, network performance data and Do Not Disturb (DND) services through a web interface.

Launched in New Delhi, the Network Anubhav Platform brings together user-generated test data from TRAI’s MySpeed and MyCall applications, along with data from TRAI’s independent drive tests.

The platform provides insights into various network parameters for consumers, telecom service providers (TSPs) and TRAI.

The dashboard is designed to improve transparency in network performance, enable consumers to examine network experiences at different locations and help telecom operators identify areas requiring network optimisation.

Network Anubhav Platform: Key Features of Geo-Spatial Maps

The Network Anubhav Platform offers geospatial maps that allow consumers to explore mobile and fixed broadband test results based on location, service provider and technology.

    Through these maps, consumers can:

    • View test results categorised as cellular or fixed broadband, further segregated by service provider and technology.
    • Examine network parameters, including download and upload speeds.
    • Navigate and zoom into maps to understand the location and distribution of consumer-generated test observations.
    • Apply filters and use legends and supporting tables to interpret the displayed results.
    • Access downloadable reports containing the test information.

The platform also provides percentile values calculated from tests conducted by users in a particular geographical area.

    These include:

    • P50 (Median Speed): Half of the tests recorded a speed at or above this value.
    • P80 (Mobile Broadband): 80% of the tests recorded a speed at or above this value.
    • P90 (Fixed Broadband): 90% of the tests recorded a speed at or above this value.

TRAI clarified that these values, which are based on user-conducted tests, do not represent a comprehensive assessment of network quality under a standardised methodology.

However, they provide valuable information about the network experiences of other users at different locations.

The geospatial maps also enable consumers to examine the results of independent drive tests conducted across various locations.

By bringing together user-generated test data and independent drive test results, the Network Anubhav Platform provides a location-based view of network experiences and performance.

Network Anubhav Platform to Empower Telecom Consumers

The Network Anubhav Platform aims to empower consumers by providing access to network performance information and online DND services.

Consumers can use the platform to report spam and test internet speeds. Aggregated results from TRAI applications, the web interface and independent drive tests are available through the Network Anubhav dashboard.

Users can also view location-specific results of tests conducted by other consumers, helping them understand the internet and network experiences reported in different geographical areas.

The availability of these results is expected to make network performance information more accessible to consumers.

How Telecom Service Providers Can Use Network Anubhav Platform Data

The Network Anubhav Platform also provides a secure interface for telecom service providers to access consumer-generated network data.

Through this interface, TSPs can view information relating to call quality, network coverage and internet tests conducted by consumers.

Along with the geographical location, date, time and values of technical parameters, telecom service providers can identify specific locations that require further analysis.

TSPs can use these insights to examine network performance and identify opportunities for network improvement and optimisation.

TRAI will also use the aggregated insights available through the Network Anubhav Platform for evidence-based monitoring of consumer experiences. The regulator can use this information to support initiatives aimed at improving network performance.

TRAI’s MySpeed SDK to Expand Network Testing Participation

TRAI’s MySpeed Software Development Kit (SDK) enables eligible third-party applications to integrate connectivity measurement capabilities.

Through wider integration of the MySpeed SDK, more applications can contribute to connectivity measurements, potentially increasing consumer participation and the volume of real-world network performance data available on the Network Anubhav Platform.

The additional measurements can help expand the coverage and utility of the information displayed on the dashboard.

DND Services Now Available Through Network Anubhav Web Interface

Along with network performance information, the Network Anubhav portal now provides access to Do Not Disturb (DND) services through a web interface.

Consumers can use the available DND facilities to:

    • Exercise their preferences regarding commercial communications.
    • Submit complaints relating to unsolicited commercial communications.
    • Track the status of submitted complaints.
    • View consolidated complaint information.
    • Access service-provider-wise complaint information.

The integration of DND services provides consumers with web-based access to facilities for managing commercial communications and reporting unsolicited commercial messages.

Anil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman, TRAI, said: “The Network Anubhav Platform brings greater transparency to observed network tests conducted by Consumers and TRAI.

It empowers consumers to analyse location and service provider specific tests, enables TSPs to identify areas for network optimisation and strengthens TRAI’s efforts for network improvement.”

TRAI has encouraged consumers to regularly contribute through its MySpeed and MyCall applications.

According to the regulator, wider consumer participation will improve the coverage and utility of the information available through the Network Anubhav Platform.

How to Access the Network Anubhav Platform

Consumers, telecom service providers and other users can access the Network Anubhav portal through TRAI’s official website interface.
