IndiGo to Begin International Operations from Navi Mumbai International Airport in February 2027

Navi Mumbai International Airport

Mumbai: IndiGo and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) have jointly announced that they are in the final stages of operationalizing a plan for IndiGo to commence international flight operations from Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) from February 2027 and progressively expand its presence thereafter.

The phased expansion at Navi Mumbai International Airport is aimed at further strengthening the partnership between IndiGo and AAHL while supporting Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s (MMR) dual-airport system.

As part of its expansion at NMIA, IndiGo will progressively transfer 12 daily international departures from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to Navi Mumbai International Airport.

These services will cover all of IndiGo’s present international operations from CSMIA to Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta.

In addition, IndiGo will introduce one daily service to Kathmandu. This will take the airline’s international network at Navi Mumbai International Airport to 12 destinations between February and July 2027.

IndiGo will also transition the required domestic connectivity from CSMIA to NMIA to support these international services. The move is intended to ensure seamless onward connections for customers.

In close collaboration with IndiGo, AAHL has been working to enable the necessary infrastructure at Navi Mumbai International Airport to provide a smooth and efficient transfer experience between IndiGo’s international and domestic services.

The development will mark the next step in IndiGo’s expansion strategy to build Navi Mumbai International Airport as a long-term international hub.

IndiGo to Create Capacity for International Expansion at CSMIA

At CSMIA, the capacity transition will also support two additional objectives for IndiGo.

First, it will create room for IndiGo’s continued international expansion in 2027, enabling the airline to launch new services across Asia, Africa and Europe using its expanding fleet of A320/321 and A321XLR aircraft during 2027.

This expansion will take place without placing further pressure on the capacity-constrained airport.

Second, the associated transition of domestic operations will support IndiGo’s share of the capacity reductions required to enable the redevelopment of CSMIA Terminal 1 (T1) by 2030.

IndiGo and AAHL will continue to work together to ensure that any further adjustments required to IndiGo’s services at CSMIA T1 to enable the redevelopment will be accommodated in CSMIA Terminal 2 (T2).

Navi Mumbai International Airport: Phased Transition Across Mumbai’s Dual-Airport System

The phased transition involving Navi Mumbai International Airport is intended to support a transparent, equitable and proportionate rebalancing of capacity across Mumbai’s dual-airport system.

The rebalancing will take into account each airline’s presence at CSMIA. According to IndiGo and AAHL, the approach will help facilitate an orderly transition for all carriers, minimize operational disruption and provide greater planning certainty for airlines and passengers as NMIA scales up and CSMIA progresses with its redevelopment.

IndiGo will announce the final dates for the transition of services to Navi Mumbai International Airport and the introduction of new services to CSMIA after the completion of final project coordination and securing of relevant operating approvals.

The phased transition will materially expand connectivity from NMIA while further expanding international reach from CSMIA.

It will provide passengers across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region with stronger twin-airport access to a broader range of domestic and international travel options.
