Unbox Roblox report

New Delhi: Unbox Roblox, an immersive gaming and creation platform, hosted a familiarisation event in New Delhi this week to showcase its latest announcements from RDC 2026, new games and features relevant to players, parents, creators and partners.

At the event, Unbox Roblox also highlighted the platform’s growing presence in India and announced an Economic Impact report examining its contribution to the country’s creator ecosystem.

The report, Investing in India’s Vibrant Creator Ecosystem: Roblox’s Economic Impact on India’s Video Game Industry, was prepared by Access Partnership for Roblox in October 2026.

It examines the role of Roblox in India’s gaming and creator economy, including creator activity, economic contribution, skills, global reach and user engagement.

Speaking about the potential of Unbox Roblox and the wider platform in India, Sunil Rao, Managing Director, Roblox India and South Asia, said, “This is the age of small studios and the next big hit on Roblox could come from India. Roblox daily active users grew by 64% y-o-y* and I am excited about the possibilities that exist in this market across players, partners and creators.”

The company believes Roblox can play a key role in furthering game consumption as well as creator careers in India.

India’s gaming industry offers significant growth opportunity

The Unbox Roblox event highlighted an Economic Impact report that places Roblox within India’s rapidly expanding video game industry.

According to the report, India’s video game industry generated ₹6,300 crore in revenue in 2025 and is forecast to reach ₹9,200 crore by 2028, representing annual growth of 13%. India has more than 500 million gamers and the second-largest gaming population globally.

The report also notes that India had more than 2,300 game development companies in 2026, underlining the expansion of the domestic development ecosystem.

Against this backdrop, Unbox Roblox showcased how the platform is supporting creators who develop, design and derive income from their digital experiences.

Roblox had 123 million daily active users globally as of Q2 2026, while more than 250 eligible creators in India qualified for payouts from Roblox in 2025.

Daily active users in India grew at an annual rate of 76% between 2020 and 2025. Over the same period, the number of Indian creators eligible to receive Roblox payouts grew at an annual rate of 96%, while total payouts to eligible creators grew by 72%.

Unbox Roblox highlights creator economy potential

The Unbox Roblox event highlighted the growing creator economy around the platform. The Access Partnership report estimates that Roblox creator activity contributed ₹123.9 crore to India’s GDP between 2020 and 2025, equivalent to $14.8 million.

The estimated GDP contribution grew at an annual rate of 77% during the period.

The report estimates that Roblox creator activity supported approximately 510 local jobs in India in 2025, with the job impact growing at an annual rate of 72% between 2020 and 2025.

These jobs are expressed as full-time-equivalent employment across the economy and do not represent direct employment by Roblox.

The study says the GDP impact is based on creator activity and does not include a broader range of activities such as advertising or societal impacts.

Creation tools lower barriers for Indian creators

Another key area highlighted during Unbox Roblox was the accessibility of Roblox’s creation tools.

According to the report, 94% of surveyed Indian creators said they could build online games on Roblox with minimal prior experience, while 91% said the platform’s development tools and resources were genuinely helpful for learning game development.

The report found that creators commonly learn through community-led and online resources.

The Roblox community was identified by 65% of surveyed creators as a channel through which they first learned to create on the platform, followed by YouTube tutorials at 62% and Roblox documentation at 54%.

The creator ecosystem also offers multiple monetisation channels.

Among surveyed Indian creators, Creator Rewards and developer products were each cited by 57%, while game passes were cited by 56%.

Other monetisation channels included paid access, in-game purchases, Premium payouts, monetisation outside Roblox, brand partnerships, advertising and merchandise sales.

Roblox connects Indian creators with global audiences

Unbox Roblox also highlighted the international opportunities available to Indian creators through Roblox’s global distribution. According to the report, 92% of surveyed Indian creators said Roblox helps their games reach international users.

On average, users outside India accounted for 52% of daily active users on games created by Indian creators, while international users generated 55% of their total revenue.

The United States, United Kingdom and Japan were identified as the leading export markets.

The report also found that Roblox accounted for 61% of total creation revenue among surveyed creators who publish across multiple platforms.

The number of creators in India eligible to receive Roblox payouts grew by 96% annually between 2020 and 2025, reaching more than 250, while total creator payouts grew by 72% annually.

Small World Games demonstrates global scale from India

The Unbox Roblox event report profiles Small World Games, a Bengaluru-based studio founded by Zankhit Chawda. The studio started from a spare bedroom and has remained fully self-funded.

Small World Games now employs around 20 people. Its titles include Death Ball, which has crossed 1.6 billion visits, and Racket Rivals, which has recorded more than 560 million visits. Its Anime Defenders collaboration peaked at more than 370,000 concurrent players.

The studio has also developed the official Hamilton experience on Roblox and worked on brand integrations including Amazon’s Red One campaign. Around half of its players are in the United States, with most of the remaining audience located overseas.

Zankhit Chawda said, “A lot of the gaming industry in India is still doing outsourcing, or making games just for India. On Roblox we’re making games that reach a global audience, so our team gets compared against the best in the world. It’s humbling, but you improve really, really fast.”

Meta Fashion shows opportunities beyond game development

Unbox Roblox also showcased opportunities beyond conventional game development through the example of Meta Fashion. Founded by New Delhi entrepreneur Arjun Goel, Meta Fashion is a digital fashion business built on Roblox.

Goel came to Roblox with a theatre background rather than coding experience and taught himself 3D design through online tutorials and developer communities. He became one of the first Indian creators accepted into Roblox’s invite-only avatar creator programme.

Meta Fashion has grown into a company with five full-time employees and a wider network of more than 30 freelance artists. Its digital fashion brands have a combined community of more than 25,000 members and have sold more than 2.5 million digital fashion items.

The business works with freelance 3D artists across India, creating opportunities for artists to develop digital fashion for audiences around the world.

“If Roblox didn’t exist, I wouldn’t be doing any of this. What I’m proudest of is the work we’ve created for 3D artists in India, paying them above the market rate and giving them steady work, because the platform rewards good design so quickly,” said Arjun Goel, Meta Fashion, 2026.

Roblox experience can support wider creative careers

The Unbox Roblox report also highlights how experience on the platform can translate into wider career opportunities.

According to the study, 91% of surveyed Indian creators said their Roblox-related work helped them receive external job offers, freelance projects or business opportunities, while 86% said they use their Roblox portfolio to showcase their skills.

The report profiles Hriday Agrawal, a 19-year-old Indian creator who began developing on Roblox while at school.

He learned 3D modelling and game design through experimentation and feedback from other developers and now combines freelance work with a degree in Integrated Design and Media at New York University.

Agrawal has contributed to games including My Restaurant!, Drift Paradise and Space Sailors, which have collectively recorded more than 1.5 billion visits.

His work has helped him build skills in 3D modelling, graphics and texturing, while client work provided experience in pricing, negotiation and managing deadlines.

“What started as a small hobby has become close to my university degree, the internships I’m applying for, and hopefully my own game studio one day. The community helped me at every step, and I try to pass that on to the next generation of developers,” Agrawal said.

Unbox Roblox highlights learning, entertainment and social connection

Beyond the creator economy, Unbox Roblox highlighted findings around how users in India play, learn and connect on the platform.

The report estimates that Roblox users in India perceive ₹347.9 crore, or $39.9 million, in annual value from using the platform.

This is measured as consumer surplus, based on the difference between what consumers are willing to pay for a service and what they actually pay. The average Indian user was estimated to derive ₹1,750, or $20, in value annually.

The survey found that 92% of Indian users like being able to learn at their own pace using free tutorials and community resources.

Users identified game design as the top skill gained through Roblox at 69%, followed by creativity and innovation at 61% and critical thinking at 59%.

Social interaction is another part of the platform’s user experience.

Ninety-three per cent of surveyed users said they enjoy spending time with friends and other community members on Roblox, while 90% said they had met new people and made friends through the platform.

Another 89% said Roblox had enabled them to meet people from other countries and learn about their cultures.

The report also found that 94% of surveyed users in India agreed that Roblox helps them relax or unwind after a long day. Mobile phones were the most common access device, used by 88% of surveyed users, followed by PCs and desktops at 86%.

Roblox and India’s creator ecosystem

The findings presented at Unbox Roblox indicate the platform’s expanding role across India’s gaming and digital creator ecosystem, from game development and digital fashion to freelance work, learning and global audience access.

The Access Partnership report states that Roblox’s creator activity contributed ₹123.9 crore to India’s GDP between 2020 and 2025 and supported approximately 510 local jobs in 2025.

The study also points to the growing number of creators receiving payouts, the expansion of creator revenues and the ability of Indian creators to reach international audiences.

The report concludes that Roblox’s free creation tools, global platform and multiple monetisation channels can help aspiring creators and established studios develop skills, reach international audiences, generate income and contribute to India’s digital creative ecosystem.

Data in the quote is for the quarter ending June 30, 2026.
