Thiruvananthapuram: Genrobotics has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Territorial Army (TA) to establish a framework for collaboration in robotics research, technology evaluation, training and capability development, strengthening its focus on robotics for defence and disaster response.
The MoU was signed at the KYTA & TA 2.0 Symposium in Kolkata and establishes cooperation across a range of areas, including hazardous-environment robotics, disaster response, HADR (Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief), confined-space operations, critical infrastructure inspection, engineer support, AI-enabled inspection and remote sensing.
The collaboration also covers indigenous research and development (R&D), technology demonstrations, user trials and specialist training, creating a framework for the application of robotics for defence and disaster response in hazardous and critical operational environments.
The MoU was signed on behalf of the Territorial Army by Maj Gen SS Patil, AVSM, VSM, ADG TA, while Genrobotics was represented by Vimal Govind M.K., CEO & Co-founder.
The signing took place alongside the TA 2.0 Symposium, where Genrobotics CEO Vimal Govind M.K. also participated in panel discussions focused on unlocking India’s civilian talent pool for military capability-building.
Robotics for Defence and Disaster Response: Genrobotics Expands Capabilities
Genrobotics is known for developing robotic systems for hazardous and confined-space operations. Its portfolio includes the Bandicoot manhole and sewer-cleaning robots, and the company has been expanding into disaster-response and defence-allied robotics applications.
The partnership with the Territorial Army marks a step toward applying Genrobotics’ indigenous robotics capabilities to national security and disaster-response use cases, further advancing its work in robotics for defence and disaster response.
Through the collaboration, the company will work across areas such as hazardous-environment robotics, confined-space operations, disaster response and HADR, as well as critical infrastructure inspection.
The framework also includes AI-enabled inspection, remote sensing and engineer support.
The focus on indigenous R&D, technology demonstrations and user trials is also part of the collaboration, alongside specialist training for relevant capabilities.

Genrobotics Showcases Defence-Relevant Technologies
At the symposium, Genrobotics showcased a range of technologies with defence-relevant applications at its pavilion.
The centerpiece was G-Bot, a bipedal robot prototype and Genrobotics’ flagship future technology. The showcase marked the company’s first public presentation of a pure humanoid robot.
The lineup also featured Genbot, which is designed for critical missions requiring human-level accessibility in infrastructure. Genrobotics also showcased its robotic rover and G-KAI, a rehabilitation device designed for upper-body recovery.
The technologies displayed at the symposium underline the company’s expanding work in robotics across hazardous environments, infrastructure and disaster-response applications, areas closely aligned with robotics for defence and disaster response.
Genrobotics Strengthens Defence and Space Focus
Genrobotics now operates across five sectors: sanitation, medical, oil and gas, and defence and space. The company has emerged as one of India’s prominent deep-tech startups, with R&D capabilities supporting its expansion across these sectors.
In recent months, Genrobotics has brought on retired engineers from ISRO and the Indian Army. The move reflects the company’s growing focus on defence and its push into defence technologies.
The company’s expansion into robotics for defence and disaster response was further underscored days earlier when Genrobotics inaugurated a new production facility in Thumba dedicated to R&D and production for defence and space applications.
The new facility adds to Genrobotics’ efforts to develop and produce technologies for defence and space applications while expanding its indigenous robotics capabilities.
With the MoU with the Territorial Army, Genrobotics is establishing a framework covering robotics research, technology evaluation, training and capability development, with applications spanning defence, disaster response, HADR, hazardous environments and critical infrastructure.
