India Startup Funding Falls 51.65% to $163 Million in August 21–27 Week

Pune: India startup funding declined sharply during the week of August 21–27, 2026, with startups raising a total of $163.32 million across 14 funding rounds, according to the latest Weekly Funding Tracker by Sahyadri Startups and Tracxn.

The funding was down 51.65% from the previous week, when Indian startups raised $337.79 million across 14 rounds.

The latest India startup funding figure was, however, higher than the $116.30 million raised during August 7–13, 2026. Compared with that period, funding increased by 40.43% during the current week.

India Startup Funding Records $163.3 Million Across 14 Rounds

The India startup funding ecosystem recorded 14 funding rounds between August 21 and August 27. While the number of rounds remained unchanged from the previous week, the total amount raised fell substantially from $337.79 million to $163.32 million.

The funding tracker categorises the rounds into seed-stage, early-stage and late-stage funding. For the current period, late-stage funding accounted for $87.13 million, followed by early-stage funding at $59.68 million and seed-stage funding at $16.51 million.

The tracker defines seed-stage funding as including Seed and Angel rounds, while Early Stage covers Series A and Series B rounds. Late Stage includes Series C and later rounds, private equity, pre-IPO and unattributed rounds.

Late-Stage Funding Leads India Startup Funding

Late-stage transactions represented the largest share of India startup funding during August 21–27, contributing approximately 53.4% of the total funding. Early-stage funding accounted for around 36.5%, while seed-stage funding contributed approximately 10.1%.

The distribution marked a shift from the previous week. During August 14–20, late-stage funding stood at $311.6 million, while early-stage funding was $22.74 million and seed-stage funding was $3.45 million.

During August 7–13, late-stage funding stood at $63 million, early-stage funding at $49.59 million and seed-stage funding at $3.71 million.

Third Wave Coffee Leads India Startup Funding Deals

Third Wave Coffee emerged as the largest funding deal during the week, raising $42.63 million in a Series D round. WestBridge Capital and Creaegis participated in the round, with WestBridge Capital listed as the lead investor.

Airbound ranked second among the top deals, raising $37 million in a Series A round. Greenoaks, DoorDash, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Humba Ventures participated, with Greenoaks as the lead investor.

MATTER secured $25 million in a Series C round, with participation from Helena, Capital 2B, Japan Airlines and Translink Innovation Fund, and SMSC.

Battery Smart raised $19.5 million in a Series C round. Rising Tide, Ecosystem Integrity Fund and Blume Venture participated, with Rising Tide as the lead investor.

InspeCity rounded out the top five deals with a $10.5 million seed round, led by Speciale Invest and Ashish Kacholia, with Antler and Shastra also participating.

Other notable India startup funding deals during the week included:

  • Trucksup – $8.2 million Series A
  • GreenJoules – $6.5 million Series B
  • CURAA – $4.18 million Series A
  • UtsavApp – $3.8 million Series A
  • Water Robots – $2.5 million Seed

The tracker also recorded funding for Be Clinical and CarbonStrong, while funding amounts for PIXEL Health and LightFury Games were undisclosed.

GreenJoules, Battery Smart and Airbound Among Key Startups

The India startup funding deals covered companies operating across several sectors, including coffee and consumer brands, autonomous delivery, electric mobility, battery swapping, space technology, biofuels, home appliances, ritual services, robotics and healthcare.

Third Wave Coffee, headquartered in Bengaluru, raised its Series D funding for its internet-first coffee business. Airbound, also based in Bengaluru, develops autonomous delivery drones and AI-powered logistics systems.

MATTER, based in Ahmedabad, develops geared electric motorcycles and EV energy solutions, while Battery Smart operates battery-swapping services for electric two- and three-wheelers.

InspeCity, based in Thane, develops technologies aimed at extending satellite lifespan and reducing space debris. GreenJoules, based in Pune, produces biofuels from waste.

Most Active VCs in India Startup Funding

Three venture capital firms were identified as the most active investors during the current period, based on the number of rounds participated in.

Rising Tide participated in the Battery Smart round, while Greenoaks participated in Airbound’s funding round. 3one4 Capital participated in the CURAA round.

Each of the three venture capital firms participated in one funding round during the August 21–27 period.

India Startup Funding Sees Two Acquisitions and One IPO

The current period also recorded two acquisitions and one IPO, compared with two IPOs and no acquisitions in each of the previous two weeks.

In the acquisition segment of India startup funding and startup exits, C2I Semiconductors was acquired by Infineon on August 24, 2026, while Digital Benchers was acquired by Infonative Solutions on August 22, 2026. The acquisition values were undisclosed.

The IPO activity for the week consisted of ENS, which went public on August 21. The company had a market capitalisation of approximately $13.05 million at IPO and is based in Noida. ENS provides application development and digital marketing services.

India Startup Funding Trend Over the Last 12 Months

The latest India startup funding data also shows considerable month-to-month variation over the past year.

Funding reached $925.86 million in September 2025, before rising to $1.38 billion in October 2025. It then declined to $717.87 million in November and $719.06 million in December.

Funding increased to $1.26 billion in January 2026 and $1.15 billion in February, before reaching the 12-month high of $2.08 billion in March 2026.

The monthly total subsequently fell to $647.36 million in April and $680.73 million in May. Funding rebounded to $1.42 billion in June and stood at $1.08 billion in July.

For August 2026, the tracker recorded $912.33 million in total funding across 60 rounds.
