Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has launched the Quantum Technologies Interest Group, the state’s first organised community focused exclusively on quantum technologies, with the aim of building a future-ready quantum workforce.
Minister for Road Transport C P John inaugurated the Quantum Technologies Interest Group during an event titled Quantum Tech Matrix held in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Quantum Technologies Interest Group has been conceived as a collaborative platform connecting learners, researchers and professionals interested in quantum computing, quantum communication, quantum sensing and related technologies through regular learning sessions, mentorship, workshops and industry engagement.
Launched under MuLearn, Kerala’s large-scale student innovation and peer-learning platform supported by GTech (Group of Technology Companies), the Quantum Technologies Interest Group is positioned as Kerala’s first exclusive quantum technologies cohort.
The event witnessed participation from more than 50 students, faculty members, researchers, industry professionals and technology enthusiasts.
Addressing the gathering, C P John stressed the importance of preparing young talent for opportunities emerging under India’s National Quantum Mission and highlighted the role of emerging technologies in shaping the country’s future.
“Kerala has always been at the forefront of embracing new ideas. The launch of this quantum community is a significant step toward towards building the talent and ecosystem that India’s National Quantum Mission demands,” the Minister said.

In the keynote address, Prof. Dr. Mathew Chandrankunnel CMI, Advisor to JIS University, Kolkata, explained the foundations of quantum mechanics and discussed its scientific and philosophical significance, presenting complex concepts in an accessible manner for participants from diverse academic backgrounds.
During the programme, Manoj Joseph, Director of SuperQ Quantum, Canada, and mentor of the Quantum Technologies Interest Group, launched the community’s official website.
The platform will provide announcements, learning resources, event updates and community engagement opportunities to support the long-term growth of Kerala’s quantum ecosystem.
Participants also witnessed a live demonstration of ChatQLM, a quantum computing laboratory simulation platform powered by SuperQ Quantum and presented by application partner Nanostuffs Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
G. Hari Kumar, Founder Editor of TikTalk Newsletter, conducted an interactive session aimed at fostering collaboration among students, researchers and industry professionals.
A technical session titled “Portfolio Optimization Using Quantum Computing” was delivered by Dr. Fathima Nihla Latheef. The session demonstrated how quantum algorithms can be applied to real-world financial optimisation problems and highlighted the expanding relevance of quantum technologies across industries beyond conventional computing applications.

Organisers said the Quantum Technologies Interest Group will conduct regular learning sessions, expert talks, office hours and collaborative activities to nurture a vibrant quantum technology community in Kerala and prepare learners for emerging opportunities in the field.
