New Delhi: The Jan Dhan Darshak App has enabled GIS-based monitoring of banking infrastructure across India, with 99.92% of villages now covered by banking outlets within a 5-kilometre radius, according to the government.
The Jan Dhan Darshak App plays a crucial role in tracking and ensuring financial inclusion by mapping banking access points such as bank branches, Business Correspondents (BCs), and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) outlets.
The Government of India has been undertaking sustained efforts to ensure the availability of at least one banking outlet – comprising a bank branch, Business Correspondent (BC), or India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) – within 5 kilometres of all inhabited villages.
This initiative is closely monitored through the Jan Dhan Darshak App, a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based platform designed to provide real-time visibility into the country’s banking infrastructure.

As per the latest data uploaded by banks on the Jan Dhan Darshak App, 99.92% of villages across the country are now covered by banking outlets within a 5 km radius as of March 6, 2026.
Notably, 100% of villages in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli have achieved full coverage under this initiative, as tracked through the Jan Dhan Darshak App.
The government has identified key challenges in further expanding banking infrastructure, including lack of connectivity, inadequate infrastructure, and non-availability of suitable premises in certain areas.
Despite these impediments, the Jan Dhan Darshak App continues to support data-driven decision-making by highlighting gaps and enabling targeted interventions.
In line with existing guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the rollout of banking outlets in uncovered areas remains an ongoing process.
This expansion is coordinated by the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) and Union Territory Level Bankers Committee (UTLBC), in consultation with state governments, member banks, and other stakeholders.
The progress of such initiatives is continuously monitored using the Jan Dhan Darshak App, ensuring accountability and transparency.
Banks evaluate proposals for opening new banking outlets based on RBI guidelines, their internal business plans, and commercial viability. Additionally, banks conduct surveys to assess the feasibility of establishing banking infrastructure in underserved regions.
