Dai Nippon Printing Partners IIT Hyderabad, Sets Up Second Overseas R&D Facility in India

Dai Nippon Printing Research Facility at IIT Hyderabad

Tokyo: Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd (DNP, TOKYO:7912) has announced that it will establish a new overseas research and development base in Telangana, India, in April 2026, marking a significant step in its global expansion strategy.

This facility becomes the second international R&D base for Dai Nippon Printing, following its earlier establishment in the Netherlands in September 2025.

Dai Nippon Printing will collaborate with Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH), a leading science and engineering institution, to drive research initiatives in mobility and medical healthcare—two key focus areas for the company.

The R&D center will be located within the Technology Research Park (TRP), a corporate collaboration facility situated on the IITH campus.

Through this initiative, Dai Nippon Printing aims to combine its advanced technological capabilities with IITH’s research expertise and talent pool to accelerate innovation and enable faster social implementation of R&D outcomes.

Focus Areas: Mobility and Medical Healthcare

In the mobility segment, Dai Nippon Printing will prioritize the development of wireless power supply systems for electric vehicles (EVs).

The company currently holds the world’s top global share in battery pouches used for EV lithium-ion batteries and continues to advance technologies related to next-generation mobility solutions.

At the new R&D base, Dai Nippon Printing will leverage its proprietary sheet-type coil technology to design, develop, and commercialize wireless charging systems for EVs in collaboration with IITH. This initiative aligns with the future vision of autonomous driving and advanced mobility ecosystems.

In the medical healthcare domain, Dai Nippon Printing will focus on advancing synthesis routes for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).

Through joint research with IITH, the company aims to strengthen its capabilities in precision organic chemical synthesis and process development.

Drawing on the expertise of DNP Fine Chemicals Utsunomiya Co., Ltd., Dai Nippon Printing will work across the entire value chain—from synthesis route design and prototyping to evaluation and eventual mass production.

Strategic Vision for India and Global Markets

Looking ahead, Dai Nippon Printing plans to position India as a key global development hub for APIs. The company aims to commercialize the outcomes of its R&D initiatives and expand its market presence not only in India but also across international markets, including Africa.

This move underscores Dai Nippon Printing’s commitment to strengthening its global innovation footprint while tapping into India’s growing ecosystem of research, talent, and industrial capabilities.
