Accelerated Growth in Local Manufacturing

The company’s local production has accelerated remarkably: the first 50,000 cars were produced over 19 years (1995–2014), followed by 100,000 units in the next nine years, and the latest 50,000 cars were manufactured in just two years and three months. This sharp growth reflects both rising demand in India’s luxury automotive sector and Mercedes-Benz’s robust investment in local operations.

Manufacturing Prowess and Technological Leadership

Mercedes-Benz India has consistently led in technological innovation and manufacturing excellence. In 2015, it became the first market outside Germany to locally manufacture a Mercedes-Maybach (S500). It has also taken a leadership role in electric mobility by beginning local production of the EQS 580 Sedan in 2022 and later, the EQS 580 SUV — making it the first luxury carmaker in India to localize two battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

Since 2022, the company’s manufacturing plant has been fully powered by green energy, aligning with Mercedes-Benz’s global commitment to sustainable and responsible manufacturing practices.

Strong Portfolio and Market Presence

The Chakan facility now produces 11 different models, making it the widest range of locally manufactured luxury vehicles offered by any automaker in India. Mercedes-Benz India has invested a total of ₹3,000 crore into its operations — the highest by any luxury automobile manufacturer in the country — including a fresh investment of ₹200 crore in 2024 to support future growth and innovation.

Complementing its manufacturing strength is the company’s retail footprint, which is the largest among luxury automakers in India. With over 100 luxury touchpoints across 50+ cities, Mercedes-Benz ensures a consistent and premium customer experience across the country.

Dr. Jörg Burzer said: “Mercedes-Benz’s remarkable milestone of 200,000 ‘Made in India’ cars underlines India’s potential as a key manufacturing hub in the long run. The Indian plant has achieved a high level of production agility, manufacturing world-class ICE and EVs under one roof. Its use of 100% renewable energy demonstrates our global commitment to sustainable manufacturing.”

Santosh Iyer, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, added: “Our production facility is the backbone of Mercedes-Benz’s operations in India. It has played a crucial role in our market success and will continue to cater to rising demand with world-class quality. We remain deeply committed to the Indian market and will continue to invest in our state-of-the-art facility.”

A Milestone for ‘Make in India’

This milestone not only celebrates Mercedes-Benz’s two-decade journey of producing world-class vehicles in India but also reinforces the brand’s ‘Made in India, for India’ vision. With a blend of global standards, local relevance, and sustainable innovation, Mercedes-Benz continues to shape the future of luxury mobility in India.
