  • Senecio Robotics Partners BVG India to Deploy AI-Driven Sterile Mosquito Control Technology

    Senecio Robotics

Pune: Senecio Robotics, an Israel-based deep-tech company specialising in artificial intelligence and robotics, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BVG India Limited (BVG) to introduce advanced, AI-driven Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) mosquito control solutions in India.

The collaboration aims to strengthen public-health outcomes through environmentally responsible, science-backed mosquito population management.

The MoU was signed during a formal ceremony supported by the Israeli Embassy in India and attended by Yaniv Revach, Consul General of Israel to India.

The event highlighted the growing India–Israel collaboration in science-led innovation and sustainable public-health solutions.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment by BVG and Senecio Robotics to advance public health using non-chemical, non-GMO technologies.

The initiative aligns with BVG’s guiding principle of “Humanity First” and reinforces broader bilateral cooperation between India and Israel in innovation, sustainability, and health technology.

Senecio Robotics to Enable AI-Driven Sterile Insect Technique Deployment in India

The solution being introduced is entirely natural, non-GMO, and chemical-free, involving no genetic modification, gene editing, or environmental spraying.

Designed to complement existing public-health measures, the approach addresses growing concerns around insecticide resistance, environmental impact, and the long-term effectiveness of conventional mosquito control methods.

At the core of the initiative is the globally recognised Sterile Insect Technique (SIT), a method supported within international public-health frameworks, including guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO) for the safe planning, testing, and evaluation of SIT-based mosquito control.

The technique involves the controlled release of locally sourced, non-biting male mosquitoes that are rendered sterile. As female mosquitoes typically mate only once, mating with sterile males results in non-viable eggs, gradually reducing the local mosquito population.

Senecio Robotics brings differentiated technological capabilities to SIT deployment through its AI- and robotics-driven production platform.

The system automates mosquito rearing, sorting, and quality assurance at industrial scale, enabling production facilities to be adapted to local mosquito species, climate conditions, and population density. This scalability allows for effective coverage across large urban and regional areas.

Commenting on the MoU, Hanan Lepek, Founder and CEO of Senecio Robotics, said the partnership represents a practical step toward making SIT operational at scale.

He noted that the company’s AI and robotics platform was developed to transform a proven biological method into a reliable and scalable public-health solution, while localising production to protect human health and the environment.

BVG India Limited will contribute its extensive nationwide execution capabilities, supported by a workforce of more than 100,000 employees and experience in managing complex, people-centric programs across India.

In a statement, BVG said the collaboration with Senecio Robotics aims to introduce advanced, non-GMO mosquito control solutions using AI-driven SIT, advancing sustainable public-health outcomes while safeguarding ecosystems.

Highlighting the significance of the collaboration, Yaniv Revach, Consul General of Israel to India, said that Senecio Robotics, supported by the Israeli Innovation Authority and the BIRD Foundation, applies AI-driven Sterile Insect Technique to address mosquito populations.

He added that BVG’s operational expertise would help expand access to the Indian market and contribute to improved public health outcomes.

Senecio Robotics operates within Israel’s innovation ecosystem focused on climate, health, and sustainability technologies.

The company has also received support from the European Innovation Council (EIC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme and has participated in official Israeli technology delegations to global forums, including COP29.

The collaboration will focus on establishing localised production capabilities and deployment pathways in India, working in coordination with relevant stakeholders and authorities.

The initiative aims to support long-term mosquito population management without harming non-target species or disrupting local ecosystems.
