BSNL Launches Bharat Telecom Stack with TCS, C-DOT, and Tejas Networks

Mumbai: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), and Tejas Networks, officially launched the Bharat Telecom Stack, India’s first indigenous 4G telecom technology solution.

This initiative underscores Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building a digitally connected and self-reliant India.

With this rollout, India becomes the fifth nation worldwide to develop a fully indigenous telecom technology stack capable of supporting 4G and future upgrades.

The Bharat Telecom Stack project was executed in mission mode, with TCS leading the effort to establish data centers, deploy and commission C-DOT’s EPC Core Application, and integrate Tejas Networks’ base stations and radio infrastructure across more than 100,000 sites.

Bharat Telecom Stack Enables Swadeshi 4G Rollout Nationwide

The large-scale deployment was completed in just two years, making it one of the fastest 4G rollouts in the world.

The system has been fully integrated with BSNL’s existing 2G and 3G networks, expanding connectivity to 26,700 more villages. This rollout ensures equitable digital access across India, enabling online education, telemedicine, e-governance, and other citizen services at scale.

BSNL CMD A Robert J Ravi described the achievement as a “monumental milestone for national pride,” emphasizing that the Bharat Telecom Stack represents an Atmanirbhar Bharat in action. He added that the Made-in-India solution secures India’s digital future and bridges the digital divide.

Sandeep Govil, Director (Consumer Mobility), BSNL, highlighted that customers will benefit from a new standard of connectivity powered by sovereign, homegrown technology that is scalable for 5G and beyond.

N Ganapathy Subramaniam, Advisor – Telecom Strategic Initiatives at TCS & Chairman, Tejas Networks, said the successful deployment at BSNL positions India among a select group of countries with a comprehensive, trusted, and standards-compliant telecom technology stack. He noted that the project reflects TCS’s continued commitment to building India’s digital infrastructure.

For decades, TCS has delivered mission-critical nation-building programs, including stock exchange modernization, digital passport services, healthcare systems, and defense pension solutions.

With the Bharat Telecom Stack, TCS and its partners extend India’s capabilities in building resilient, scalable, and citizen-centric digital infrastructure.
