As India marks World Tourism Day 2025, new data from Justdial shows a sharp rise in both domestic and international travel searches between January–August 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.

Domestic tourism has become the cornerstone of India’s travel revival, with a 47% surge in searches Pan-India. Spiritual destinations continue to attract strong interest, with Chardham packages up 73%, Kedarnath 39%, and Ayodhya 40%.

Leisure and hill destinations also saw remarkable spikes – Kerala (+82%), Munnar (+80%), Kashmir (+78%), Shimla (+57%), Darjeeling (+60%), and Ooty (+51%).

Popular getaways including Manali (+53%), Goa (+27%), Mahabaleshwar (+21%), and Shirdi (+10%) further underscored India’s growing inclination for short and accessible domestic holidays.

World Tourism Day 2025: International Travel Searches Jump 44%

International tourism also rebounded strongly, with a 44% increase in searches across India. Short-haul destinations remain favourites among Indian travellers, led by Nepal (+78%), Thailand (+70%), and Dubai (+41%).

Religious and cultural journeys abroad showed steady demand, with Umrah packages recording 7% growth during the same period.

The surge in travel demand highlights India’s rising disposable incomes, preference for domestic tourism amid reduced overseas migration, and enthusiasm for spiritual as well as short-haul journeys.
