New Delhi: Pradip Kumar Das, Chairman and Managing Director of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA), underscored the critical importance of green jobs in driving India’s clean energy transformation.
Speaking at the 7th International Conference on Sustainability Education (ICSE), organized by the Mobius Foundation at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, he emphasized that nearly 3 million green jobs are expected to emerge by 2030, requiring focused investment in green education and skilling.
Green Jobs Key to India’s Renewable Energy Goals
Das highlighted that India’s renewable energy transition cannot be achieved solely through capital and technology but depends equally on a skilled workforce. He called for the establishment of dedicated green skilling centers of excellence to equip India’s workforce for the growing demand for green jobs.

IREDA, he noted, has already played a pivotal role by financing more than 27 GW of renewable energy projects. These investments have generated approximately 6,00,000 construction jobs and 50,000 long-term operations and maintenance jobs, showcasing the direct employment potential of the renewable energy sector.
IREDA’s Role in Green Education and Skilling
Das also highlighted IREDA’s initiatives, including its transition into a fully paperless organization and its collaborations with premier institutions like IITs to develop a robust knowledge bank for innovation and green skilling. He stressed that India’s renewable energy targets and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 can only be achieved with a combination of massive capital inflows and skilled human resources.
Collective Action for Inclusive Green Economy
Calling for a united effort, Das urged government bodies, industry leaders, financial institutions, academia, and civil society to collaborate in building a resilient and inclusive green economy anchored on green jobs and sustainable development.
Reaffirming IREDA’s commitment, he said: “Our mission is not only to finance renewable energy but also to strengthen the broader ecosystem of knowledge, skills, and community development. Through impactful CSR initiatives in health, education, and rural infrastructure, we ensure that India’s clean energy transition uplifts society at large.”
