Army Welfare Placement Organization Partners with Amazon India

Pune: Amazon India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Army Welfare Placement Organization (AWPO), an establishment under the Indian Army, to create structured career opportunities for veterans, military spouses, and war widows across its operations.

Under this MoU, Amazon India will collaborate closely with the Army Welfare Placement Organization (AWPO) to share job opportunities tailored for three key groups – veterans, military spouses, and war widows.

The initiative also includes awareness sessions such as webinars and workshops to guide potential applicants about available roles and career development opportunities.

Amazon and Army Welfare Placement Organization: Strategic Career Pathways

Deepti Varma, Vice President – People Experience and Technology at Amazon Stores India, Japan, and Emerging Markets, highlighted that the partnership underscores Amazon’s mission of building a diverse and inclusive workforce.

She noted that veterans and military spouses demonstrate leadership principles such as “Bias for Action, Ownership, and Deliver Results,” aligning strongly with Amazon’s culture of operational excellence.

AWPO’s Role in Supporting the Military Community

Maj Gen Ajay Singh Chauhan, Shaurya Chakra, Sena Medal (Retd.), Managing Director of the Army Welfare Placement Organization, stated, “This collaboration with Amazon India significantly strengthens our mission to connect deserving veterans, military spouses, and war widows with meaningful employment opportunities. These individuals bring exceptional resilience and diverse skills that are invaluable to corporate roles.”

Building a Corporate Ecosystem for Veterans

Amazon India has already successfully integrated hundreds of veterans into its workforce, offering specialized support such as tailored interview preparation, peer mentorship through initiatives like “Warriors At Amazon,” and structured career advancement pathways.

The MoU adds to Amazon’s broader efforts to empower underrepresented groups, including women, persons with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and now military spouses and war widows.

Highlighting the impact of such programs, Priyanka Bali, Senior Product Manager at Amazon Devices and a military spouse, shared her journey of balancing frequent relocations with career continuity.
