The Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission (StartupTN), in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA), has announced the launch of the MSME AI Grand Challenge to proactively identify potentially distressed Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The initiative aims to overcome the limitations of traditional risk assessment methods by leveraging advanced artificial intelligence technologies.
MSME AI Grand Challenge Focuses on AI-Powered Risk Identification
The MSME AI Grand Challenge seeks to develop AI-driven early warning systems capable of detecting signs of distress in MSMEs using proxy indicators such as electricity consumption and Udyam metadata.
These predictive models will provide actionable insights to the MSME Department, enabling timely interventions and reducing the risk of financial instability across the sector.

- Hackathon Phase: Includes problem walkthrough sessions, mentoring, model development, and jury presentations.
- Mentoring and Datasets: Top 10 teams receive expert mentoring and access to proxy datasets such as electricity consumption and MSME metadata.
- Final Pitch: Teams present pilot-ready solutions evaluated on architecture, model design, performance benchmarks, and deployment feasibility.
- Deployment Opportunity: Promising solutions may be offered post-challenge contracts with the MSME Department.
