New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of Mizoram development projects valued at over ₹9,000 crore in Aizawl, marking a historic milestone for the state. The projects span key sectors including railways, roadways, energy, education, and sports.
Joining the ceremony virtually due to adverse weather, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the affection of the people of Mizoram. He dedicated the Bairabi–Sairang rail line to the nation, formally placing Aizawl on India’s railway map for the first time.
PM Modi described the achievement as a testament to the resilience of engineers and workers who overcame complex terrain challenges.

Aizawl Connected to India’s Railway Network
Highlighting a transformative step for the region, Modi announced the launch of three new express trains: the Sairang–Delhi Rajdhani Express, the Sairang–Guwahati Express, and the Sairang–Kolkata Express.
He stressed that the new Mizoram development projects in rail connectivity would expand opportunities in education, healthcare, tourism, and trade.
North East as India’s Growth Engine
Reaffirming his government’s commitment, the Prime Minister said the North East, including Mizoram, is emerging as the growth engine of India. He added that the region, once sidelined, is now a priority under national development initiatives. Mizoram, he emphasized, will play a crucial role in both the Act East Policy and the upcoming North East Economic Corridor.
Mizoram development projects: Road, Energy, and Education Boost
Among the major Mizoram development projects, Modi laid the foundation stone for multiple road projects, including the 45-km Aizawl Bypass Road worth ₹500 crore, designed to decongest the city and cut travel time significantly.
Additional road works such as the Thenzawl–Sialsuk Road and Khankawn–Rongura Road will support farmers, cultivators, and ginger processors.
The Prime Minister also announced the construction of the Chhimtuipui River Bridge to enhance all-weather connectivity, and the establishment of a 30 TMTPA LPG bottling plant at Mualkhang in Aizawl, which will ensure steady supply of clean cooking fuel and create local employment.
On the education front, Modi inaugurated a residential school at Kawrthah under the PMJVK scheme and the Eklavya Model Residential School at Tlangnuam, both aimed at boosting tribal education and reducing dropout rates.
Sports and Start-Up Ecosystem
Reiterating Mizoram’s sporting legacy, Modi laid the foundation stone of a Khelo India Multipurpose Indoor Hall at Tuikual. He also highlighted that the North East now hosts more than 4,500 start-ups and 25 incubators, with Mizoram’s youth actively contributing to this ecosystem.
Mizoram Development Projects: Ease of Living and Economic Reforms
Modi spoke on the benefits of next-generation GST reforms, noting reduced taxes on essential goods, medicines, and travel. He said this has made healthcare and tourism more affordable, especially benefiting North Eastern states like Mizoram.
He further emphasized India’s economic growth, stating the nation registered 7.8% GDP growth in Q1 of FY2025–26, making it the fastest-growing major economy globally.
Mizoram Development Projects: A Vision for a Developed India
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister said the government remains committed to the welfare of every citizen and underscored Mizoram’s vital role in India’s development journey. He welcomed Aizawl to India’s rail map and extended congratulations to the people of the state.
The event was also attended by Mizoram Governor General V K Singh, Chief Minister Lalduhoma, and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
